Barton Golf wraps up regular season at Southwest Kansas Shootout, eyes post-season play beginning April 17

The Barton Community College men's golf team got a preview Monday and Tuesday of the home of the 2017 national championship, leaving Garden City with work to do if the No. 17 Cougars hope to return.  Beginning the fifty-four hole Southwest Kansas Shootout with a respectable 315 team score, the Cougars faltered in the afternoon round at Buffalo Dunes Golf Course with a 320 before Tuesday's final round of 324 left Barton in twelfth place of the thirteen team tournament which included five other NJCAA ranked teams.  

Carding a morning round 76, freshman Thitipong Homruen heated up in the afternoon firing a tournament low 2-under par 69 in the final round in vaulting seven spots in the standings to finish fourth in the forty-four man field at 3-over 145.  

Jakkapat Horsangchai was locked in an eight place log jam after the opening eighteen holes until dropping to 43rd after an afternoon 81 score.  The University of the Pacific signee got back into the eighties climbing three spots to 40th with a Tuesday morning final round 79 in finishing with a 19-over 235.

Thitipong Homruen carded 80 and 82 rounds on Monday before moving up ten spots with Tuesday's 77 round finishing in 59th at 23-over par.  Fellow freshman Kylian Cavdar finished one stroke back in 62nd sandwiching a 75 Monday afternoon round between an 82 and 83 score.

Five strokes back with a 245 29-over was Seokhun Kang who opened the chilly morning on the course with a 78 and 31st placing before dipping down to 82 and 85 round finishing in 72nd place.  Riley Kane rounded out the Cougar team in 83rd place bouncing back from a disastrous 98 opening round to fire an 82 in the afternoon before Tuesday's closing score of 88 to finish at 52-over 268.

Barton had two individualists entered in the tournament field as Dakota Soukup carded 86-84-88 rounds for a 42-over 258 to finish two spots ahead of Kane in 81st while Christian Van Nover placed 84th with a 269 53-over score consisting of 90-85-94 rounds.

The tournament was the final tune-up for post-season play as the Cougars will travel to Newton's Sand Creek Station Golf Course for the KJCCC Championship to be held April 17-18.
