Barton men’s golf begins season with 2nd place, Srinoon charges for individual title

Coming off a season the Cougars reached the NJCAA National Championships for the first time since 2006, the Barton Community College men's golf team began the 2014-15 season with a solid second place finish at the Ottawa Invitational.  Held Monday and Tuesday, the 36 hole tournament at Lawrence's Eagle Bend Golf Course featured seven four-year universities and another community college.   Trailing by one and tied for second after the first round, Barton couldn't hold off a second charge by Baker University to settle for the second place finish just two strokes off the lead. 

Natchapol Srinoon made a big splash in his collegiate debut firing a second round best 71 in jumping from fourth into a tie for first place.  Shooting a 76 in his first round the freshman from Thailand was awarded the individual title capturing a scorecard playoff over Baker University's Kyle Fecteau as the duo finished with a 147 three-over-par. 

Sophomore Landon Fox was the second of three Cougars to crack the top ten with rounds of 77 and 78 to finish at eleven-over-par 155 and into a three-way tie for seventh.  Ellinwood freshman Jared Oelke also had a solid collegiate start with rounds of 78 and 79 to finish tied for tenth with a 157 13-over-par.

In the top ten after eighteen holes firing a 78, sophomore Koby Beougher slipped back to 24th place with a second round score of 84 to finish at eighteen-over-par 162.  Great Bend freshman Chance Haney checked in at 46th place with rounds of 85 and 88 to record a twenty-nine-over-par 173 with fellow freshman Blake Huxman placed 50th as the Wakeeney native scored rounds of 85 and 92 for thirty-three strokes over par 177.

Barton will have a few weeks to prepare for its next meet as the Cougars will travel to Hutchinson to compete in the Sterling College Invitational to be held October 6-7.
