The Indiana flavor on the Barton County Community College basketball coaching staff continued with the hiring of Jack Owens as an assistant coach.

Owens joins head coach Ryan Wolf and assistant coach Jon Stuckey as Indiana natives on the Cougar bench. Owens is originally from Indianapolis. He spent last season at Howard College in Big Spring, Texas.

Owens started the year as the assistant for the Hawks, but took over as the interim coach late in the season, guiding Howard to a 7-3 mark during that time. The Hawks were 14-14 overall.

Owens played collegiately at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston. He was named All-Ohio Valley his senior season, leading the conference in assists at 5.8 per contest. He also scored 12 points a game. As a junior, Owens scored 13 points a contest and dished out 5.6 assists.

During his sophomore season in 1996-97 Owens played for the Hawks while Wolf was an assistant coach.

Owens was a two-sport star in high school while attending George Washington High School in Indianapolis. He was an all-state selection in basketball his senior season and all-state in football both his junior and senior years as a defensive back.
