10th ranked Cougars open new year with 76-69 win over Coffeyville #GoBarton

The 10th ranked Barton Community College men's basketball team opened up the new year with a 76-69 victory Wednesday night hosting Coffeyville Community College.

The Cougars broke open a one-point halftime advantage with a 12-0 run out of the locker room, increasing the margin to as much as nineteen with eleven to play in holding off a late Red Ravens comeback attempt.

Posting their second consecutive victory over Coffeyville for the first time since 2009, Barton improves to 7-1 in KJCCC play and 13-1 overall while the Red Ravens drop to 3-4 in the league standings and 7-6 on the season.

The Cougars received thirty-three points off the bench, 16 points coming from Brent Moss and 10 points by Keandre Kindell and team second best 3 steals.

Lajae Jones had a big second half in leading the starters, scoring 13 of his 15 points in the final twenty minutes and pulled down a game best 13 rebounds for his 4th straight double-double, in addition to, 4 of the squad's 13 steals.

Myles Thompson added 8 points and 8 rebounds with Mozae Downing-Rivers scoring 8 points, dished out 5 dimes including a thread-the-needle pass leading to Jones' And-1 halting a Coffeyville 10-1 stretch getting the Red Ravens back within striking distance.

Four Red Ravens reached double figures led by Chris Carroll's 16 points. Brian Griffith came off the bench for 14 points and 6 assists, Jayven Cofer's 3-of-6 from long range led to 13 points along with 5 assists and 4 steals as Jahni Summers finished with 12 points.

Alvin Cole's reserve minutes 11 boards led Coffeyville to a plus-5 rebound advantage to mark just the second time all season the Cougars' lost the battle on the glass.
