Barton Men overcome 14-point halftime deficit earning a 74-69 road victory at NW Tech #GoBarton

The Barton Community College men's basketball team overcame a 14-point halftime deficit Saturday night inside the Max Jones Fieldhouse in Goodland, KS, earning a 74-69 win at Northwest Technical College.

Trailing for over 33-minutes, Barton operated a 16-4 run over a 6:34 stretch in the second half seizing their first lead of the game with 6:05 remaining coming off a pair of Cougar Downing free throws. Barton seized the lead for good three minutes later as a pair of Hannes Saar tosses prompted an 8-0 run as the Cougars closed out the Mavericks sinking 11-of-12 from the charity stripe.

Winners of two straight, Barton moves to 4-6 in conference play and 10-6 overall while Northwest Tech falls to 2-8 in the Jayhawk and 5-11 on the season.

The Cougars will return home Wednesday night for a 7:30 p.m. tip against the 21st ranked Colby Community College Trojans before closing out the first half portion of KJCCC play Saturday at 3:00 p.m. on the road at 5th ranked Dodge City Community College.

Downing led four Cougars in double digits, scoring 14 of his 18 points in second half action. Trey Bates III posted his second straight double figure scoring performance adding 14 points on 4-of-6 shooting. Evans Kipruto added 12 points with Saar's rounding out Barton's double digit totals with 11.

Northwest Technical's Myles Arnold led two Mavericks is double-digit scoring adding a game high 23-points on 9-of-14 shooting and dishing out a game high five assists. Ethan Yancy led the bench production adding 18 points.
