Wednesday evening's matchup of the two hottest teams in the Jayhawk West went in favor of the home team as the Barton Community College men's basketball team fell short 73-67 to nationally receiving votes Hutchinson Community College.
The loss snaps a season high five game winning streak dropping the Cougars to 6-5 in league play and 7-5 overall while Hutchinson extends their winning streak to six straight and improve a Jayhawk West best mark of 10-3 and 11-3 on the season.
Barton concludes its brief two game road stretch on Saturday with a trip south to Dodge City Community College for a 3:00 p.m. tip at the Student Activity Center.
Trailing by 11 with just under 14-minutes to play the Cougars clawed their way back eventually tying it up at 60 with 3:17 left. Barton tied it up once more at 64-64 however the Blue Dragons were tougher over the final 1:47 rattling off 9 of the last 12 points earning a 73-67 victory.
Sophomore Justin Harmon paced three Cougars in double-figure scoring tallying his ninth straight in double-digit scoring tallying a team high 14 points. Jaheim Holden scored a bench high 13 points on 5-of-11 shooting. Asanti Price recorded seven of his 12 points in the second half rounding out the double-figure scoring for Barton. Desean Munson flirted with a double-double performance pulling in a game high 12 rebounds to go along with his eight points.
Hutchinson was led by Jaden Okon's 17 point performance on 8-of-11 shooting. Reigning KJCCC Player of the Week Matt Mayers scored all 12 of his points in the second half while recording a double-double with 10 rebounds matching teammate Majok Kuath's rebound total. Chris Robinson rounded out the Blue Dragon double-figure scoring adding 10 off the bench.
