Barton's Ford and Washington earn post-season basketball accolades #GoBarton #RoarCougs

Barton men's basketball post-season honors

Elijah Ford and Leondre Washington of the Barton Community College men's basketball team received post-season recognition following the conclusion of the 2018-19 campaign.

Washington received the first of the accolades after averaging over eighteen points in the Cougars' Region VI Tournament run, coming to a halt in the semifinals against 13th ranked Seward County Community College.

Completing the season at 25-8, tied for second in the Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) West Division at 14-7, Ford and Washington led the Cougars in most categories.

Landing on the first team of both the All-West and Region VI Division I teams, Ford's sophomore season produced eight double-doubles to average a sixth best 17.0 points and league second best 8.3 rebounds per game. Ranking third in the region shooting 59.7%, Ford missed seven games this season, returning from the absence with a 10-of-12 performance in a twenty-two point and ten rebound game to earn the week eight conference player of the week award.

Complimenting Ford's inside game, Washington was a threat to opponents all over the floor resulting in a second team selection of both the All-West and Region VI teams. Averaging a league third best 17.4 points per game, the sophomore transfer dished out a fourth best 3.9 dimes per contest while striking for a 13th best 36.8% beyond the arc.

Landing in double-figures in all but four of his games donning the Cougar uniform, Washington was named the conference player of the week twice including a week that included a torrid stretch of free throw shooting. Connecting on 15-of-16 free throws against Northwest Tech for sixth most made tosses in program history, Washington's career high thirty-six point night was followed three days later with a program third best perfect thirteen charity tosses against Seward County. The sharp-shooting continued throughout the season as his 81.3% (174-214) ranks fourth best on the program's career chart.
