An angry Cougar team didn't fare well for Allen Community College on Saturday afternoon as the No. 7 ranked Barton Community College men's basketball team rolled to a 95-79 win. Fresh off a disappointing home loss, the Cougars made the trip to Iola in not only looking to get a win, but looking to avenge a three-point set back to the Red Devils in one of Barton's poorest outings resulting in the late November home loss. The result would not be pretty for the home fans as Barton unleashed its fury during the middle twenty minutes of action in building a thirty-two point lead before calling off the assault in settling into the eventual sixteen point win. The victory keeps Barton atop the conference standings by one game at 16-3 and improving to 20-3 on the season while sending Allen to its seventh straight loss in dropping to 4-15 in the Jayhawk and 6-17 overall. Barton's next contest will come Wednesday at the Barton Gym in a 7:30 p.m. tip against seventh place Independence Community College (10-9, 13-9).
The Cougars trailed by as many as six through the opening nine minutes before momentum started to shift with a six point spurt behind Keshon Montague free throws and back-to-back buckets by Marvin Cannon to grab its first lead 21-20 at the 8:32 mark.
The lead was short lived as the next possession the Red Devils buried a trey in what would be Allen's last time in front. Becoming tied a couple more times on the ensuing possessions, Barton took control with 11-0 run as Akeem White brought new energy off the bench scoring the last six in the run for a 41-29 Cougar lead with three minutes remaining. White would later add another bucket for his tenth point of the half with Kawanise Wilkins dropping his eleventh to close out Barton's 23-10 stretch in final seven minutes for a thirteen point 48-35 lead to the break.
Exchanging points out of the locker room, Noah Webster's pair of free throws and a three-pointer with a Tyrell Andrews tip-in sandwiched in between bolstered the lead to nineteen behind the seven point burst just four minutes into the second frame.
An Allen free throw and later a two-point bucket did little to slow down the Cougars as Webster converted an And-1 and buried two consecutive treys. Elijah Ford also knocked down his seventh three-pointer of the season in the 12-3 run as the 19-3 stretch exploded the lead to 73-45 in just three minutes.
Barton's fury wasn't slowing down coming out of the 12:59 timeout as Ford slipped a pass through the zone to White for a dunk and after a defensive stop, Montague delivered alley-oop style dime to White for the transition slam and thirty-two point lead with twelve minutes remaining.
The final largest lead occurred again with eight minutes to play with the Cougars calling off the assault as the second wave of players finished out the game in the sixteen point victory.
Webster led six Cougars in double-digits knocking down 4-of-9 behind the arc in scoring twenty-one points. Wilkins added fifteen and eight rebounds with White finishing with fourteen on 7-of-9 shooting. Ford and Montague each dropped thirteen with Ford's eight boards tying Wilkins for team high honors while Montague dished out ten dimes for his third double-double of the season. Cannon rounded out the double-digit scoring with ten while Kannen Haist matched a career high four points in seven plus minutes of action.
Jordan Marshall scored fifteen of his twenty points in first half action and grabbed eleven rebounds to lead the Red Devils. Rayce Hoepker's five three-pointers led to seventeen points with Jacob Patterson soring fourteen and Perry Carroll adding eleven.
