No. 21 Cougars escape with 75-73 win over Colby

Moving into the national polls earlier in the day at No. 21, the Barton Community College men's basketball team survived Colby Community College upset bid Wednesday night at the Barton Gym 75-73.  With twenty lead changes throughout the night, the Cougars grabbed the final lead with five minutes remaining to hold on for the victory.  Still in the hunt for a Jayhawk West title just a half game behind No. 8 Butler Community College, Barton locked up at least the second spot in the West at 11-3 and 23-5 overall while dropping Colby 3-12 and 12-17 overall.  The Cougars begin the first of only two remaining regular season games this Saturday at Pratt Community College before concluding next Wednesday hosting Cloud County Community College.  Saturday's tip-off time at the Dennis Lesh Sports Arena is slated for 8:00 p.m.

For the second time in the last three games, Ahmad Walker came up one away from a triple-double leading the Cougars with twenty-four points, nine rebounds, and ten assists to go along with four steals.  Hot shooting Kenny Enoch was huge for the Cougars in second half action knocking down consecutive treys to give Barton its biggest lead of six with 3.38 remaining.  Following an old fashioned three-point play by the Trojans' Ahmed Ismail, the sophomore then nailed his third consecutive trey to push the lead back out to six with 3:06 left.  Enoch finished with fifteen points on 5-of-10 from the field including 4-of-9 from behind the arc.  Jalin Barnes was the third Cougar to reach double-figures finishing with fourteen.

Joey Meyer's 9-of-12 from the field and twenty points led four Trojans in double-digits.  Coming off the bench giving Colby a 28-12 advantage, Bruce Watkins, Jr., and Ismail scored all the bench points with seventeen and eleven respectively.   Brian Starr added fourteen with Ismail grabbing a team high seven rebounds to lead a Colby five board advantage.
