Cougar season ends with loss to Cowley in Region VI quarterfinals
The Barton County Community College men's basketball team saw its season come to an end with a 58-49 loss to Cowley Sunday afternoon in quarterfinal action of the Region VI Tournament at Koch Arena in Wichita. Barton had trouble shooting the ball thanks to a tough Cowley defense, hitting just 24 percent from the floor to finish its season at 23-9. The Cougars had their chances in the 2nd half but couldn't overcome a big lead the Tigers built late in the 1st half and early in the 2nd half. Cowley will move on to the semifinals to face Coffeyville. Seward and Cloud will face each other in the other semifinal.

Highlights
Neither team shot well to start the game with Barton getting an 8-2 and 10-5 lead on the Tigers. But after getting that 10-5 lead on Cowley with 14 minutes to play the Cougars could muster just 2 more points over the next 8 1/2 minutes as Cowley slowly pulled out to an 18-12 lead. Barton went to half down 23-16.

The lead quickly grew to double figures in the 2nd half as Cowley took a 31-20 lead with 16 minutes to play. It got as high as 36-20 with 15 minutes left and the Cougars would battle uphill the rest of the way. Barton did answer the 16-point deficit with a 9-0 run to make it 36-29 with 12 minutes still to play but Cowley pushed it back to 40-29.

The Cougars made another run to cut the lead to 42-36 with 7 minutes left but that would be as close as the Cougars would get. The Tigers again pushed Barton back with 5 straight and a 47-36 lead. Chris Jackson led Barton in his final game as a Cougar, scoring 14 points. Fellow sophomores Qa'rraan Calhoun and Sandy Perry each added 11 for the Cougars. Jackson and Calhoun – the two leading scorers for Barton on the season – combined to shoot 7-for-37 against the tough Tiger defense. In all, 8 Cougars played their final games at Barton.
