Cougars come up short in bid for 3rd straight win; lost at Dodge 76-74
The Barton County Community College men's basketball team had a chance to leave the Civic Center in Dodge City with a win, but for the 3rd straight year, came up just short. This time a Chris Jackson 3-pointer in the final seconds just skid off the iron for Barton as Dodge City held off Barton for a 76-74 Wednesday night. Barton was looking for its 3rd straight win but instead fell to 4-6 in the Jayhawk West and 16-7 overall this season. The Cougars trek won't get an easier as two of the 3 teams leading the West will pay visits to the Barton Gym in the next week. Cloud County will be in Great Bend Saturday for the Cougars' Homecoming.

Highlights
In a contest that saw 11 lead changes and the biggest lead by either team being just 7, it was no surprise that the contest came down the final minutes and final seconds. Dodge led the final 8 minutes of the game but could never separate itself from Barton. It looked as if the Conquistadors had reached that separation, grabbing a 75-69 lead with 2 minutes to go and again at 76-71 with just 49 seconds left.

Barton cut the lead to 76-74 when Scott Schneider drilled a long 3-pointer from the right wing with 38 seconds left and following a fast break missed layup from Dodge City's Anthony Harris, Barton had the ball back with 30 seconds to play for a chance to win or tie. Javon Parris put forth Barton's 1st effort on a drive to the basket, but his shot rolled off. Qa'rraan Calhoun was there for the Cougars rebound and a couple of passes later, Chris Jackson had a look from nearly the same spot Schneider hit his 3-pointer. This time, however, the ball bounded off the rim and into the hands of Harris as the buzzer sounded.

Jackson led the Cougars with 19 points followed by Chip Steven with 17 and Parris with 13. Harris had a huge game for Dodge, scoring 37 points in the contest – 29 of those in the 2nd half as the 6-8 freshman was nearly unstoppable. In the 2nd half, Harris hit 10-of-14 shots, 2-of-2 3-pointers and 7-of-7 free throws. He also had 8 2nd half rebounds and 11 total for the game.
