Highlights
As has been the standard in each of the Cougars 1st 5 conference games now, Barton fell behind early to Garden by scores of 10-3, 16-5 and 21-7. And has also been the trend in 4 of the 5 contest, Barton came back to take the lead. This time it started with a 14-3 run – 10 points by Chris Jackson – to make it a 24-21 Garden lead. Barton continued to whittle away, finally overtaking the Broncbusters with 6 minutes left. The two teams traded the lead the final 6 minutes with Garden leading 41-39 at half.
Garden led by as many as 6 early in the 2nd half but the Cougars battled back. Barton had a run going midway through the half on an Antowine Lamb dunk and Jackson layup and free throw to take a 64-60. Barton had a chance to make it a 6 point lead but turned the ball over. That was followed by an offensive rebound basket by Garden that started an 10-0 Broncbuster run. Garden would never trail after that, leading the final 6 minutes of the game. Garden hit just 4-of-9 free throws in the final 4 minutes but Barton was not able to take advantage, only getting as close as 3 with 33 seconds to play.
Jackson matched his career-high with 30 points in the game, hitting 12-of-20 from the floor and 4-of-10 on 3-pointers. He also added 4 assists. Qa'rraan Calhoun posted a double-double with 12 points and a team-high 12 rebounds. Sandy Perry also scored 12.
