Barton scores big road win in Jayhawk West; beat Garden 84-74
The Barton County Community College men's basketball team picked up one of those much desired Jayhawk West road wins Wednesday night. Barton picked up that road win in Garden City with a dominating 1st half, which turned into a nightmare to start the 2nd half before Barton regained control of the contest for an 84-74 win over Garden City at the Perryman Complex. The win moves Barton, which climbed to No. 10 in the NJCAA poll Wednesday, to 17-1 on the season and 4-1 in the Jayhawk. Garden falls to 11-6 overall and 2-2 in the West. The Cougars are back home Saturday to host Butler County.

Highlights
The 1st half couldn't have been much better for the Cougars, who forged a 15-point halftime advantage on the Broncbusters home floor. Barton hit 20-of-37 shots from the field, knocked down 5-of-12 3-pointers and put 47 points on the board in building a 47-32 lead. During the opening 20 minutes of action, Barton sophomore Ivan Evans posted a double-double with 15 points and 10 rebounds. Barton also limited Garden to just 33 percent from the floor and 30 percent on 3-pointers.

But all that changed to start the 2nd 20 minutes of play. Back-to-back 3-pointers by the Broncbusters in just over 1 minute of play got Garden started and it didn't stop for about 7 minutes. The Busters 6-0 turned into a 14-3 run to cut it 4 points at 50-46. The onslaught didn't stop there as they took lead in the process of finishing off a 26-5 run in the 1st 7 minutes of action to take a 58-52 lead with 13:11 left in the contest. Barton went 2-for-8 from the floor in those 7 minutes with 5 turnovers. Coach Craig Fletchall used a pair of timeouts as well in an attempt to stop the bleeding.

As quick as the Cougars saw their 17-point led vanish, Barton shook off the blues and answered right back after falling behind by 6. An Evans dunk on a fast-break ended the 26-5 run and started the Cougars on a run of their own. Following Evans' dunk, Barton scored on 6 straight possessions to regain control of the contest. The Evans dunk was followed by Thiago Cordeiro layup next trip down the floor then 2 free throws from Wagner Bueno to tie the game at 58-all. An Omar Johnson trey the next trip down gave Barton the lead back at 61-58. Another Evans dunk and free throw the next trip down pushed that lead 64-58 with 8:06 to play. An Evans layup and a tip in by Scott Schneider capped the 6 straight possessions with a score, giving Barton a 68-61 lead with 7:26 left in the game.

From there the Cougars never led by fewer than 3 points, pushing lead to as many as 11 points with 3:54 to play on their way to the win. Evans had a spectacular night for Barton, finishing with 25 points and a career-high 16 rebounds. Johnson led all scorers with 27 points and added 9 rebounds from his 5-7 frame to go along with 5 assists. Blaine Clark tossed in 11 off the Barton bench. Julian Allen scored 26 to lead Barton while Tyrone Flemming collected 11 rebounds for the Broncbusters.
