Barton struggles for offense in loss at Dodge City
The Barton County Community College men's basketball struggled to score points Wednesday night at the Civic Center in Dodge City for the 2nd straight season. The result was a 59-41 loss to the Conquistadors in Jayhawk West action. Last season Barton escaped Dodge with a 43-41 win, scoring the 2nd lowest total points in school history. Wednesday night moved last season's output to No. 3 lowest all-time, replacing it at the No. 2 spot. Barton hit just 31 percent from the floor as the Cougars dropped their 4th straight contest. Barton is now 14-6 overall this season and 2-4 in the West. Dodge City moves into a tie atop the West with a 4-2 mark in conference play. The Conquistadors are 14-6 overall. Barton will host Cloud County – also tied for the top spot in the West – Saturday night at the Barton County.

Highlights
From the outset, the Cougars had trouble scoring. Dodge City jumped to a 7-0 in the game's 1st 3 minutes and never trailed. The Cougars trailed just 23-16 with 3 minutes to play in the opening half but a 10-0 run to end the half for Dodge gave the Conquistadors a 33-16 halftime lead. It was a half that saw Barton just 25 percent from the floor.

To start the 2nd half, Barton County had chances to cut into the Dodge City lead as the Conquistadors opened the half in scoring funk of its own. The Conquistadors scored a single free throw 4 minutes into the half, then did not score again until a 3-pointer with 11:19 remained in the game. However, as Dodge City went 8:49 with only a single point, Barton was only able to cut the lead to 34-23 as the Cougars netted just 7 points over that same time.

Barton was led by Chris Berry with 11 points and 8 rebounds. Dominique White added 8 points to the cause. The Cougars will return home Saturday to take on Cloud County at the Barton County Gym.
