Barton drops West road tilt at Hutchinson

Barton drops West road tilt at Hutchinson
The Barton County Community College men's basketball team fell victim to some great shooting from Hutchinson Saturday night, losing to the Blue Dragons in Jayhawk West action. The Cougars dropped a 78-62 decision at the Sports Arena in Hutchinson. During the contest the Blue Dragons hit a season-high 12 3-pointers. The loss drops the Cougars to 4-8 in the West and 16-10 overall this season. Hutchinson still has an outside shot at the West title with a 7-5 mark in West play and a 15-10 overall mark. Barton will be on the road two more times before returning home as the Cougars are in the midst of a 3-game road swing. That will continue Wednesday night in El Dorado as the Cougars take on Butler County at the Power Plant.

Highlights
The Cougars fell behind 7-0 to start the game and never had the lead on the Blue Dragons. But Barton stayed around within striking distance much of the contest. Barton answered the 7-0 run by Hutch to start the game with a 5-0 run of its own. That is when Hutch knocked down its 2nd 3-pointer – a theme that would continue. Every time Barton would make a run, a 3-pointer would be a dagger to that run.

By the time the night was over, Hutch had knocked down 12-of-20 3-pointers, including 4-of-5 nights from Keith Windom and Terry Jeffries. Things got out of hand midway through the 2nd half. After Barton whittled a double digit lead to 50-42 with 10:47 to play, Hutch scored on 8 straight possessions, including 4 3-pointers, to push the lead to 72-46 with 5:02 to play. The final margin of 16 would be as close as Barton got the rest of the way.

Ivan Evans paced the Cougars with 24 points, followed by Andrew Emmons with 10. Evans also led Barton with 9 rebounds, followed by 8 from Thiago Cordeiro. Four Blue Dragons found double digits paced by Nate Brumfield with 17 points. Jeffries added 16 and Windom 12.
