Cougars winning streak ends at 14 with loss at No. 5 Colby
The Barton County Community College men's basketball team saw its 14-game winning streak – the 2nd longest in the nation at the time – come to an end Monday night in Colby with a 69-65 setback to No. 5 Colby. The loss drops the Cougars to 15-3 overall this season and 3-1 in the West. Colby is now 17-1 and 3-1. The two are tied atop the Jayhawk West with those identical 3-1 records. Hutchinson, Butler County and Dodge City are each 2-1.



Highlights
The Cougars led nearly the entire contest. In fact, Barton didn't trail until the final minutes of the contest. Following a 6-0 run to break a 2-all tie, Barton maintained the led for 35 consecutive minutes. That lead ballooned to 24-12 as JP Batista on the inside and Joel Hannagan from the perimeter we're nearly perfect from the floor. Colby got the lead back to 1 point on a couple of occasions during the 1st half as the Cougars took a 34-31 lead to halftime.

Barton quickly pushed the lead to 40-33 as Batista again started the half nearly unstoppable. From that point – 16-minute mark – until the 2:23 mark Barton's lead bounced from 1 point to 5 points. On numerous trips the Trojans had a chance to take the lead but couldn't do so. Finally with 2:23 to play Colby's EJ Drayton hit two free throws to give Colby a 66-65 lead. The Cougars would not score the remainder of the game. In fact, Barton didn't score in the game's final 3:50, when Justin Rose knocked down a tough jumper.

Batista paced the Cougars with 24 points followed by Hannagan with 15. Batista and Rose each had 8 rebounds while Rose handed out 5 assists and Aubrey Bruner 4. Justin Williams led four Colby players in double figures with 18 followed by Drayton with 16. The game saw the two teams combine for just 18 turnovers with Barton committing 10.
