Tegtmeier signs to play for Barton County next season

After helping the Emporia High School basketball team to a 13-game improvement in the win column last season, Caleb Tegtmeier will continue his basketball career at Barton County Community College. The senior at Emporia High recently signed a letter-of-intent to play for Barton County, choosing the Cougars. Last season Tegtmeier, 1 of 5 in-state signees released so far by Barton County men's coach Soupy Campbell, helped Emporia High to a 22-3 record, 13 wins more than the previous season.

Tegtmeier scored 17 points a game for the Spartans last season, helping them to the Class 6A state tournament where they finished 4th. The only loss for the Spartans during the regular season came on in the Roundhouse Classic in McPherson -- one of the top tournaments of the season. In addition to his 17 points a contest, the 6-5 forward grabbed 10 rebounds an outing and dished out 2 assists. Those numbers were good enough for a spot on the All-Centennial League 1st team, the All-Class 6A 2nd team, and an honorable mention selection All-State.

Emporia made some noise late in Tegtmeier junior season. The Spartans surprised everyone by winning Sub State after going just 7-13 during the regular season. That got Emporia a trip to the Class 6A state tournament. As a junior Tegtmeier scored 15 points a contest to earn 1st Team All-Centennial League honors and honorable mention All-Class 6A.

Coach Soupy Campbell comments
Caleb will be a good inside-outside player for us. He is a good shooter.
