Streak continues for Hall of Fame Coach

Streak continues for Hall of Fame Coach
Wednesday night marked another achievement in the coaching career of Dave 'Soupy' Campbell. The win for his Barton County Community College men's basketball team over Pratt marked the 17th straight season as a head coach he guided his teams to a 20-win season. The NJCAA Hall of Fame coach captured his 600th career win earlier this season. The 20 wins this season at Barton County was the 1st at the school for him and Barton's 8th consecutive as a school.

Campbell, who is now 606-240 in his 26th season, started the steak in his 1st season at the College of Southern Idaho in 1981. That team 28-6 as did his next team at the school. In his final season at Southern Idaho the club has a 24-7 mark. After spending 3 years as an assistant coach at Clemson, Campbell returned to Junior College basketball at the helm of Western Nebraska Community College where he posted 13 straight seasons of 20-win basketball. The fewest amount of wins he had in that time was 22 with the most being a 36-4 team that took 3rd at the NJCAA National Tournament in 1995.

In his initial season at Barton County, Campbell has his team at 20-4 and leading the Jayhawk West by 1/2 game over Hutchinson. Barton obtained its 20th win of the season with a 75-51 win over Pratt. Ironically, Pratt was also the team that Campbell earned his 600th career win against earlier this year. The Cougars will travel to Garden City Saturday, starting a stretch of 4 straight games that has Barton going head-to-head with the other top 5 teams in the conference.
