Barton moves into Top 20 for 1st time this season
Despite a double overtime loss at Garden City Saturday, the Barton County Community College men's basketball team made its first appearance of the season in the NJCAA Top 20 rankings, moving in at No. 20. The Cougars, who lead the West with Garden City at 8-3 with Hutchinson 1/2 game back at 7-3, are 1 of 3 teams that are currently ranked from the West. Hutchinson has the highest ranking at No. 11 with Colby coming in at No. 13.
The Cougars lost 2 of their first 3 games this season then hit a 15-game winning streak that brought them back to national attention. During that winning streak, the week of December 2, Barton County began receiving votes for the Top 20 with a 10-2 record. Every week since that time, the Cougars have been receiving votes but have not been able to crack the top spot. After going 1-1 this past week with a 20-5 overall record as well as co-leading the West, Barton finally moved into the rankings.
Colby and Hutchinson have been ranked all season with Colby reaching as high as No. 2 and Hutchinson as high as No. 4. Those will be the Cougars next two opponents as No. 13 Colby comes the Barton County Gym Saturday for a Homecoming contest before the Cougars travel to Hutch on Feb. 18.
