Giambrone tabbed 1st team All-Jayhawk West; Small, Morales, Biggs earn honors
Andre Giambrone capped off a great season for the Barton County Community College baseball team by being selected as a 1st team All-Jayhawk West pick by the conference coaches. Giambrone was the only Cougar to earn 1st team honors but two more Barton players were named 2nd team and another as an honorable mention pick. In addition to Giambrone, a sophomore outfielder from Manhattan, Andrew Small, a sophomore outfielder from Nebraska, and Ronnie Morales, a sophomore pitcher from Oklahoma, were 2nd team picks. Great Bend High graduate Brent Biggs, a freshman 2nd baseman, earned honorable mention status.

Barton’s season ends at Allen County
The Barton County Community College baseball team saw its season come to an end this past weekend at Iola, as the Cougars dropped 2 of 3 games in the best-of-3 series to Allen County to open Region VI play. Barton won the 1st game with a big 11th inning by 16-8 margin, then dropped the next two contests, 8-2 and 11-1, to see its season come to an end at 28-25. The Region VI double elimination portion of the tournament will continue this weekend at Wichita.

Barton lets sweep get away; brings home split from Butler
The Barton County Community College baseball team was on the verge of a sweep and a possible spot in the top four of the Jayhawk West Sunday afternoon at McDonald Park in El Dorado. But the Cougars watched Butler County score 3 times in the bottom of the 7th of the nightcap to win the 2nd game and salvage a split with the Cougars. Barton won the opener in 11 innings by a 6-2 score then fell 5-4 in the 2nd game to end its West season at 17-15 and in 5th place. Barton is 27-22 overall. Butler, currently the 4th place team, is 17-11 in the West and 27-21 overall.

Cougars escape upset in opener to sweep Dodge
The Barton County Community College baseball team kept things interesting a little longer than expected in the opening game but eventually got the job done then rolled to an easy win in the nightcap to sweep Dodge City at Lawson Field Saturday afternoon. The Cougars trailed by 2 runs in the 6th inning of the opener, but rallied for a 6-4 win. Barton won the 2nd game, 10-2, for the sweep. The Cougars are now 26-21 overall this year and 16-14 in Jayhawk West play. Dodge City, still winless in the conference, fell to 3-42 overall and 0-26 in the West.

Cougars split at Hutch; now 14-14 in West with 4 games to play
The Barton County Community College baseball team split yet another Jayhawk West doubleheader Wednesday afternoon at Hutchinson. Barton won the opener 9-3 then lost the nightcap 11-5 at Hobart Detter Field. The Cougars seem stuck on splits and .500 as Barton has now split 3 straight twinbills and 8 of the 14 double headers in West play this season. Barton is 14-14 in West action, tied for 5th. The Cougars have four more game to work their way to 4th place and a home playoff game in Region VI action. If Barton finishes 5th or lower, the Cougars will go on the road in the opening round.

Barton picks up split with Seward on Lawson Field dedication day
The Barton County Community College baseball team split a pair of Jayhawk West games Sunday afternoon at Lawson Field with Seward County on the day the baseball field was officially dubbed Jimmy Lawson Field. Barton won the opener by a 12-4 score then took time to honor Lawson between games. In the nightcap, Seward picked up the win, 8-3, to give the teams a split. Barton also split games in Concordia with Cloud County Saturday. Barton is now 23-20 and 13-13 in the West. Seward is 14-8 in the West and 27-19 overall.

Cougars cure offensive woes with sweep of Friends JV
The Barton County Community College baseball team finally broke free of its chains on offense Thursday afternoon at Lawson Field with a sweep of the Friends JV in a break from conference action. Barton, which had scored just 4 runs in the previous 4 games, busted out with a 10-run 5th inning the opener for a 10-4 win over the Falcons. The Cougars completed the sweep with a 10-0 shutout. Barton is now 21-18 on the season.

Offense struggles as Cougars drop twinbills to Pratt, Garden
The Barton County Community College baseball team has hit one of those stretches that happen during a season where scoring runs are tough. For the Cougars in their last couple of Jayhawk West outings, scoring has been at a premium. The Cougars have scored just 4 runs in the past 4 contests, resulting in a 4-game losing skid. In Great Bend Tuesday, Barton lost twice to West front runner Garden City, 4-0 and 3-2. The games were originally slated for Sunday but wet conditions moved the contest back. Saturday in Pratt, the Cougars dropped a pair of game, scoring just 2 runs the entire day. Barton lost 3-1 and 4-1 and are now 19-18 for the season and 11-11 in the West. Garden improved to 28-9 and 13-5.

Cougars sweep Colby in West action
The Barton County Community College baseball team kept themselves in the thick of the Jayhawk West race with a sweep of Colby Thursday afternoon at Lawson Field in Great Bend. Barton won the opener by a 10-1 score then took the nightcap 8-4. The contests were rescheduled games from Wednesday when wet conditions kept the teams from playing. Barton is now 19-14 overall this year and 11-7 in the West, which puts them in a battle for a place among the top half of the West and a home playoff game later in the year. Colby fell to 15-18 and 4-10.

Cougars split with Butler; wrap up weekend at 3-1
The Barton County Community College baseball team split a pair of Jayhawk West games with Butler County Sunday afternoon at Lawson Field to end the weekend with a 3-1 mark in West play. The Cougars lost the opener to Butler 6-5 in 8 innings then made short work of the Grizzlies 16-6 in 5 innings in the nightcap. Saturday the Cougars won 8-4 and 12-2 contest at Dodge City. Barton is now 17-14 overall and 9-7 in the West. Butler, who entered the weekend tied with Seward for the top spot in the West is now 9-5 in the West and 16-15 overall after a 2-2 weekend.

Barton wins nightcap to nab split with Hutchinson
The Barton County Community College baseball team finally found the familiar surroundings of Lawson Field to its liking in the 2nd game of the doubleheader Wednesday afternoon against Hutchinson. After winning the 1st 5 homes games of the season, Barton dropped three contests in a row before defeating the Blue Dragons, 2-1 in extra innings to break that streak. Barton lost the opener 14-4. The Cougars are now 14-13 overall and 6-6 in the West while Hutch is now 13-12 and 6-4.

Cougars earn split at West leader Seward
The Barton County Community College baseball team earned a split over the weekend, ending a brief 3-game losing skid with a series-opening win over Jayhawk West leader Seward County in Liberal Saturday. The Cougars won the opener 9-5 then lost in the nightcap as Seward scored 4 5th inning runs to win 5-1. The split puts Barton at 13-12 overall this season and 5-5 in the West. The loss was just the 2nd West loss for Seward, which is now 6-2 in the West and 19-13 overall. Barton will host Hutchinson Wednesday at Lawson Field, where Barton is 5-2 this season.

Barton drops home games against Cloud
The Barton County Community College baseball team had not tasted defeat at home this season, winning its first 5 home games of the season. That all came to an end Thursday as Cloud County swept the Cougars on their home field, winning 6-0 and 4-3 on the chilly, overcast day. The losses even Barton out in Jayhawk West play at 4-4 and 12-11 overall. Cloud is now 5-5 in West action and 11-14 overall.

Cougars split West games at Garden; stumble at Brown Mackie
The Barton County Community College baseball team split a pair of Jayhawk West games this weekend in Garden City then dropped a single game affair to Brown Mackie. Barton’s split of games in Garden City keeps the Cougars near the top of the West with a 4-2 record is West play. The split also snapped the Cougars 5-game winning streak. Barton is now 12-9 overall this season.

Parents weekend Sept. 25 and 26 for Barton County baseball
The Barton County Community College baseball team will hold its annual Parents Weekend this upcoming weekend. Activities are planned for both Saturday and Sunday including baseball games, orientation, and a barbeque among other activities.

Schmidt replaces Sirianni as assistant baseball coach at Barton County
Ryan Schmidt returned to his alma mater at Barton County Community College when he was hired to replace assistant baseball coach Jay Sirianni. Schmidt, like Sirianni, will be in charge of the Barton pitching staff among his other duties. Schmidt comes to Barton after serving a similar capacity with Fort Hays State University. Sirianni is now an assistant coach in charge of the pitching staff at the University of Texas-Arlington, an NCAA Division I school.
