Blackout Wednesday - Cougar Basketball to host Hutchinson

The Barton Community College men’s and women’s basketball teams will both be facing nationally ranked Hutchinson Community College teams Wednesday night at the Barton Gym.  In conjunction with game, Barton will dedicate the night to “Black Out” for cancer awareness encouraging fans to wear black as a show of support.  A limited quantity of “Black Out” themed t-shirts will be available to purchase at the door for $10 with proceeds donated to the Barton Relay for Life team.  The Lady Cougars will tip-off at 5:30 p.m. followed by the men’s game at approximately 7:30 p.m. with a special performance by the Barton Dance team taking place during halftime of the men’s game.  Admission prices are $6 for adults, $4 for ages six through high school, and children under five years of age admitted free.  Reserved tickets are also available for $10.  For more information contact the Barton Athletic Office at (620) 792-9377.

The Lady Cougars are coming off their largest margin of victory this season with thirty-five point 82-47 dismantling of Colby Community College Sunday afternoon in Colby.  Barton shot 55.6% from behind the arc and 53.2% from the field as the Lady Cougars improved to 3-2 in conference play and 15-6 overall.  The No. 3 ranked Lady Dragons come in at 5-0 in conference and 19-0 on the season after defeating Pratt Community College 83-63 Saturday night in Pratt.  Hutchinson has not allowed an opponent to shoot over 50% from the field in 121 straight games, dating back to 2010.  The Lady Dragons rank either first or near the top in all defensive conference categories while also possessing two players ranking in the top ten in HCC history for points, assists, and steals.

Expect a high scoring affair as the Barton men and No. 15 Dragons have eclipsed the 100-point mark a combined thirteen times.  The Cougars, 15-6 overall and 3-2 in conference, will be looking for a little revenge of last season’s loss to Hutchinson in the Region VI Championship game while the Blue Dragons will be in the familiar role of the hunted as they sit tied atop the Jayhawk West standings at 4-1 and 18-3 overall.   Barton features four players averaging in double figures while Hutchinson has five players including the nation’s No. 2 leading scorer.

Fans unable to attend the games can listen and/or watch online by visiting the Barton Sports website.  Pregame coverage begins approximately twenty minutes prior to tip-off with the “Voice of the Cougars” duo of Steve Webster and Cole Reif of Eagle Radio & Hull Broadcasting.
