Barton Basketball teams begin playoffs on Thursday #GoBarton

Basketball playoff information

The regular season is in the books as the Barton Community College basketball programs turn their attention to Thursday's first round action of the Region VI playoffs.

The Cougar men, ranked No. 19 in the latest NJCAA Division I poll, tied for second in Jayhawk Conference at 21-5 and 25-5 on the season. Seeded third for the tournament due to tie-breaker procedures, Barton will host 14th seed Dodge City Community College (6-20, 8-22) with a 7:00 p.m. tip-off at the Barton Gym. The winner will advance to Sunday's 5:00 p.m. quarterfinal round at Park City's Hartman Arena against the victor of Wednesday evening's 6th seeded Colby Community College hosting 11th seed Pratt Community College.

Season parking passes will still be in effect for the contest but admission is free with open seating available. For those unable to attend the contest, fans can listen on local radio 104.3FM or find video and audio web links located at www.BartonSports.com.

The Lady Cougars came out on the unlucky side of a coin flip and will be heading to Coffeyville Community College on Thursday. The teams tied for eighth place in the conference at 13-13 and 16-14 overall but after deadlocked through multiple tie-break scenarios, a Monday evening coin flip determined Coffeyville would get the region 8th seed and host the first round contest. Having defeated the Red Ravens 65-48 at the Barton Gym just this past Saturday, the 9th seeding will send Barton back to the site where Coffeyville handed the Lady Cougars a twenty-five point defeat back on January 10. Game time at Nellis Hall Gymnasium is set for 7:00 p.m. with the winner advancing to Monday's 1:00 p.m. quarterfinal at Park City's Hartman Arena against top seed No. 10 ranked Seward County Community College.

For those unable to make the trip to Coffeyville, Eagle Radio stations 1590AM and 97.7FM will be carrying the play-by-play action with audio streaming on the web as well at www.GreatBendPost.com. The links, along with video streaming provided by Red Ravens Sports, can also be found at www.BartonSports.com.
