Barton Volleyball result at Garden City

The Barton Community College volleyball team fell in four sets Wednesday night at Garden City Community College (25-20, 25-19, 11-25, and 25-14).

The loss drops the Cougars to 4-10 in the KJCCC and 17-12 overall while the Broncbusters conclude the regular season at 8-8 in league and 20-11 overall.

Barton will conclude its' brief two match road stretch Wednesday night with a 6:30 p.m. first serve at Hutchinson Community College before closing out the regular season Saturday welcoming in Dodge City Community College for sophomore night.

The Cougars hit for .165 led by the .400 hitting of Jada Davis recording five kills behind her 10 attempts committing just one error while also leading play at the net defensively recording six assisted blocks and one solo blockage.

Tasiah Nunnery leaped into the programs top-10 kills list collecting five kills on 29 swings surpassing Paula Caten's 766 mark set back in 2002-2003. Three other Cougars Darby Smith, Beatriz Rissi, and Buse Kocakaya joining Davis and Nunnery notching five kills.

Clara Lindstrom paced the defensive backline recording a team high 15-digs in her four sets played while serving as the libero over the final two sets. Nunnery joined Lindstrom as the other lone Cougar over double figure digs recording 10.

Bennie Horsch fueled the offensive 5-2 attack dishing out 15 assists with Iris Oosterbaan adding 10.

In the opening set, Barton would mount just a pair of multi two point runs through the midway point with Garden City taking advantage of a pair of 4-0 spurts putting the Cougars on the heels trailing 18-10. Barton would settle in with six of the next seven behind a pair of 3-0 stretches the first coming on a Molly Norris kill and back-to-back Oosterbaan service aces with the next fueled behind the assisted block of Davis and Nunnery, Ella Rumford kill and Broncbuster error trimming the deficit to 19-16. The pivotal stretch occurred on the next point as a service error sparked Garden City with the next three stretching the lead back to six. Kills by Kocakaya and Rumford mixed between a Broncbuster attack error brought the Cougars back within three before the Broncbusters claimed three of the final four.

Grabbing the first lead of the night on a Norris block to open the second set would be the lone Barton lead in the set as Garden City accounted for the next five grasping the early 6-1 edge. The key stretch came in the midway point as a 5-1 spurt handed the Broncbusters its largest lead of 18-12. The Cougars fought back with a pair of 2-0 stretches to cut the deficit to four but Garden City didn't falter down the stretch taking a 2-0 match lead.

Needing to win the third set in order to extend the match, Barton answered the call jumping in front of the Broncbusters behind a 14-0 run generated off a pair of Garden City errors with Kocakaya added a trio of kills, Davis/Nunnery pair of blockages and pair of attacks as the Cougars raced out to a 19-3 advantage. Barton would control the pace down the stretch earning a 25-11 victory to force a fourth set.

Again, in the fourth Barton found itself in an early hole, five straight Garden City points built an 5-1 lead before growing it to eight at 13-5 and 11 at 20-9. A three point stretch behind a Rissi kill, Nunnery service ace and Broncbuster attack error cut it to nine but Garden City fired back with five of the final seven to secure the first season sweep of Barton in the all-time series meeting.
