Nia Robinson of the now 2nd ranked Barton Community College women's track and field team has been named the week eight U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) NJCAA National Women's Athlete of the Week.

Robinson won three events this past weekend at the KJCCC/Region VI Championships in Garden City helping the Cougars to a runner-up finish.

Earning the High Point Female Athlete of the Meet, Robinson's season or personal best efforts scored thirty of the Cougars' 178 points.

Beginning Friday, Robinson's planted a season best 6.40m (21-00.00) long jump mark on her first attempt, sitting out the rest of the event to win the title by eighteen inches. Although wind aided, the mark was just six inches from her program record of 6.56m set in last season's Region VI Championship and landed as the No. 10 all-conditions performance in NJCAA history.

Starting her two event final day in the triple jump, Robinson was nearly as efficient in recording a potential 12.08m winning mark on her first attempt. Passing on her two remaining turns, Robinson returned to the runway in finals to post the winning and current nation leading 12.87m (42-02.75) dent in the sand to record the program's 5th best mark in all-conditions.

Not done and plenty of spring left in the legs, Robinson passed on her high jump attempts until what would be the second place 1.62m height. Clearing that and three other heights on her first try, Robinson rose to a program 3rd best 1.80m (5-10.75) on her second attempt to cap her victory on the 13th all-time height. The now three-time record book entry attempted the six foot height a trio of times but came just shy full clearance each attempt.

Robinson and the Cougars will wrap up the season next week at the NJCAA Division I Championships May 19-21 in Hutchinson, Kansas.
