Harvey and Small collect week four KJCCC Track and Field Honors #GoBarton

KJCCC Week 4 Track and Field Athletes of the Week

Ashantae Harvey and Almond Small of the Barton Community College track and field team has been named the week four Kansas Jayhawk Community College Conference (KJCCC) Outdoor Track and Field Athlete of the Week respectively.

The duos performances came last weekend at the Jo Meaker Classic & Multi hosted by West Texas A&M University where Barton recorded a combined 34 new personal bests performances or season best performances with the Cougar women accounting for 15 and their counterparts adding 19.

Harvey surpassed national qualifying standards in recording a program top-five best time in the 500m hurdles with a 59.17 finishing runner-up to teammate and program record holder Lashanna Graham.

Sitting with the second top spot of the season in NJCAA performances, the freshman also entered the 200m all-conditions program record book, clocking an event and personal best 3rd place time of 23.52.

Small shined leading the Cougar best times in the short sprints placing runner-up in the 200m, not only posting a national qualifying time of 20.50, but doing so in a wind legal time in what is a Canadian U20 national record.

The freshman took the top time of the 36-entry field on a personal best 10.17 leading four other Cougars.

Barton will return to action this weekend at the Grizzly Classic held by Butler Community College in El Dorado, KS. The Cougars will then travel down south to Norman, Oklahoma, for the the John Jacobs College Invitational held April 22nd-23rd.
