Barton women capture three golds and seven national qualifiers to open outdoor track and field season #GoBarton

The Barton Community College women's track and field team opened up the outdoor season this past weekend competing in the Louisiana Classic hosted by the University of Louisiana in Lafayette.

The Cougars won three events over the two-days of competition, placing nine among the top ten of the field, and chalking up seven national outdoor championship qualifiers.

Atop the Barton achievements, Kelsie Murrell-Ross beat thirty-four other shot put competitors in a winning 15.54m (51-00.00) mark for a program fourth best throw ever.

Lashanna Graham led a 1-4 finish in the 400m hurdles clocking a winning 1:00.92 while Deborah Lowe also reached nationally qualifying standards with a fourth place 1:03.11 time.  Ashantae Harvey also had a fourth place and qualifying time in the shorter 100m hurdles in clocking a 14.00.

Barton's other first place finish came in the 4x100m relay, the tandem of Harvey, Naiya Morgan, Ida Seesay, and Jayda Dillon clocking a 45.99 to edge out the title among the nine team field. 

Challenging for the 800 crown, Kayan Green came up a half of a second short clocking a qualifying 2:15.25 for second place.

Barton stays in state for its next meet traveling to Winfield on Saturday for the Jinx Invitational.
