17th ranked Barton women's soccer closes out home field with playoff advancing win over KCK #GoBarton

A two goal differential didn't tell the whole story as the 17th ranked Barton Community College women's soccer team controlled most of Saturday's Region VI/Plains District first round action in coming out victorious 4-2 hosting Kansas City Kansas Community College

Barton outshot the Blue Devils 35-4 in the ninety minutes, sending seventeen on frame while allowing just three. Leading 2-1 into the halftime break, the Cougars put two more on the board before the mid-point in cruising the final fifteen until a late Blue Devil score with thirty-five seconds left closed out the scoring.

The second seeded Cougars improve to 15-3 on the year, advancing to Thursday's 11:00 a.m. semifinal round at Wichita's Stryker Sports Complex against third seeded Coffeyville (14-4-1) as the Red Ravens dispatched Cowley 5-2 on Sunday. KCK completes the 2022 season at 5-9-2.

Nina Norshie began her two goal afternoon breaking the goose egg on the scoreboard 17:22 into the contest receiving Sofia Morales' short pass in the box to launch a 17-yard chip shot top shelf over the Blue Devil keeper.

Seven minutes later Aya Saiki doubled-up the margin taking Rin Sato's long pass in slipping behind the defense to rattle the net completing the Japanese duo's play execution.

Less than two minutes later, a Barton turnover deep on the defensive spoiled the first half shutout. KCK's Jordan Bedard came up with the swipe then carried down the sideline before sending a pass to the top of the eighteen. Despite three Cougars in the area, Cordilia Payne was able to settle the pass then launched a chip shot top shelf cutting the deficit in half.

Mid-way through the second half, Saiki struck again for her second of the afternoon by taking Norshie's short pass at the top of the eighteen to strike near post for the freshman's 14th of the season.

Norshie tacked on another for a three-goal cushion five minutes later, having her first shot rejected and second attempt getting knocked down by a hand ball resulting in a penalty kick where Norshie's net delivery capped Barton's scoring in registering her nation leading 42nd of the season.

The Blue Devils had one more highlight to the 2022 season coming late in the contest, Mia Hurt sending a long through ball setting up Jordan Bedard chasing it down before beating reserve goalkeeper Raianny Lopes in the 1v1 situation with just 35 seconds remaining.

Nia Baker worked the first 74:54 of the contest in net to earn the victory improving to 13-3.
