18th ranked Barton women's soccer clinches share of West title, win 2-0 over 17th ranked Hutchinson #GoBarton

Barton women's soccer team following victory over Hutchinson Community College to win 2022 KJCCC West division title

The 18th ranked Barton Community College women's soccer team netted a pair of second half goals Saturday afternoon at the Cougar Soccer Complex in knocking off 17th ranked Hutchinson Community College 2-0.

The victory avenged an earlier same score defeat at Hutchinson, moving the Cougars into first place of the Jayhawk West at 10-2 and 14-3 on the season while the Blue Dragons slip to second place at 10-3 and 13-3 overall.

Barton women's soccer player Ondine Manceau launches a free kick Wrapping up a share of the West title, Head Coach Ousmane Camara's second in seven seasons, Barton controls its sole possession destiny going into the regular season finale on Tuesday hosting Johnson County Community College in a 3:00 p.m. kick-off.

Ondine Manceau netted the Cougars' game winner twenty-one minutes into the second frame on a 19-yard free kick. The opportunity presented itself following Ivanna Faria being fouled just outside the eighteen with Manceau striking far post around the wall for her first collegiate net rattler.

Locked into a scoreless first half, Barton outshot the Blue Dragons 6-4 against the wind, taking control most of the second half with a 13-1 shot advantage sending six on frame.

The Blue Dragons did have some quality scoring opportunities, a pair coming four minutes following Manceau's goal but net sheriff Nia Baker and defender Kimberly Guerrero producing big defensive plays keeping the net clean. Not showing up on the stat sheet, Baker made a handful of decisions in coming out of goal to snuff out potential attacks including a 1v1 late in the contest improving to 11-3 on the season.

Defender Hinata Kojima notched her third goal of the season giving Barton the two goal cushion with just under two minutes remaining, launching a free kick ten yards inside mid-field in taking advantage of a 15mph south wind finding upper-90 over the Hutchinson keeper Madison Quarles.
