12th ranked Cougars drop West first round battle at 19th ranked Blue Dragons #GoBarton

Barton Women's Soccer result at Hutchinson Community College

The 12th ranked Barton Community College women's soccer team was unable to overcome an early deficit Wednesday evening falling 2-0 on the road to 19th ranked Hutchinson Community College.

The loss halts the Cougars' eight game winning streak falling to 7-1 in Jayhawk West play and 11-2 on the season while the victory moves the Blue Dragons into a first place tie with Barton at 7-2 in league play and 10-2 overall. The teams will meet again on October 22 to close out the season in a 1:00 p.m. kick on the Cougars' home turf.

Barton will look to get back on track Saturday as they host Dodge City Community College in a 3:00 p.m. kickoff from the Cougar Soccer Complex.

Although the Cougars maintained the possession for the majority of the night and held a 28-3 edge in shots including a 9-3 advantage on frame, the script was the Blue Dragon defense holding Barton's nation leading scorer Nina Norshie to just one shot on frame and the through ball passing clinic that generated a pair of breakaway goals just 4:45 into the opening stanza and 40-seconds into the second half.

Entering the night as the second highest scoring team in the NJCAA, the loss was the first time Barton has been shutout this season and the first time since last year's scoreless double-overtime draw in Hutchinson that came on October 6th.

Nia Baker, who along with Norshie were named the player and goalkeeper of the week respectively on Tuesday, served all ninety between the pipes in dropping to 8-2 on the year.
