Norshie's record book impacts leads Cougars' explosive day in Texas rout #GoBarton

Barton women's soccer Nina Norshie looks for a teammate versus Trinidad State College

The Barton Community College women's soccer team began its two game Texas trip with an overwhelming 18-0 neutral site victory Saturday over Trinity Valley Community College.

Barton improves to 3-0 on the season, staying in Tyler, Texas, on Sunday for an 11:00 a.m. kick against No. 2 ranked Tyler Junior College. The Cardinals drop to 0-2 on the early year.

The Cougars led 8-0 at the halftime break, tacking on ten more net shakers in the final forty five points in posting the program's second highest scoring output since hanging 19 goals on Independence Community College in September of the 2009 season.

Multiple record book impacts were made on the day including the performance of freshman Nina Norshie. Posting her third straight hat-trick by the 16th minute, Norshie added four more to tie Great Bend native Yesenia Garcia's 2007 program high 7 goals in a contest. Adding two assists to the day's total for 16 points, Norshie surpassed Garcia and 2019 Barton Sports Hall of Fame inductee Shala Giardini's 2009 point total to take over the top spot.

The Cougars distributed 13 assists on the 18 goals, topping the thirteen in the 2009 Independence game, while launching 65 shots to blow past the 60 launched against Hesston College in 2018.

Shivani Balram led the distribution with four assists, the sophomore's first two of the year setting up Norshie's first two goals with an early second half pass setting up Yulisa Valdez' first collegiate goal. Balram moved into a tie for the third best distribution game in program history with thirty-minutes remaining setting up Ivanna Faria's second of three goals in the game.

In addition to Norshie's net rattlers, a pair of Cougars also recorded hat-tricks. Faria began the day's scoring on an assist from Norshie before adding two more goals in second half action. It took Aya Saiki less than nine minutes to record her first hat-trick, posting the first goal with 21:22 remaining in first half action from Norshie's feed then six minutes later finding the net twice from Sofia Morales' dishes in a span of less than three minutes.

Recording collegiate firsts during the contest, Hinata Kojima rattled the net at the 25:50 mark of first half play, Valdez' 41:25 goal in the second half, sophomore Kimberly Guerrero with 33:41 left on Faria's first collegiate assist, and Sofia Morales' late score.

Raianny Lopes and Ashley Melendez split time in goal, turning back one shot in preserving the shutout.
