No. 17 Lady Cougars secure third seed with 4-0 shutout to wrap up regular season; Barron reaches milestone

The No. 17 ranked Barton Community College women's soccer team wrapped up regular season play Wednesday with a shutout 4-0 victory over Kansas City Kansas Community College at the Cougar Soccer/Track Complex.   The Lady Cougars put two on the board each half, to earn the win and improve to 14-3-1 overall and 10-2-1 in conference while dropping KCK to 2-14-0 on the season and 2-11-0 in conference.  Freshman Bianca Barron, the reigning conference player of the week, contributed a goal each half to go along with a first-half assist to move into sole possession of second place in all-time season goals. The win also secures Barton's number three seed for the upcoming Region VI Tournament set to begin next week.  The Lady Cougars will host Neosho County Community College, whom they defeated 2-0 on September 22 in Chanute.  Game time is set for 1:00 p.m. Monday at the Cougar Soccer/Track Complex.

Barron began her historic day taking a Ruth Cazier pass and splitting two defenders to place a simple chip shot over the outreached arms of KCK goalkeeper Selena Orozco.  Barron returned the favor fourteen minutes later as she drew in two defenders and kicked out to the sprinting Cazier on the right wing who beat Orozco on the inside far post.  Aided by a gusty 30-40mph wind, the Lady Cougars put up twenty shots but only two found the net as the teams went to intermission with the 2-0 lead.

Being tied with Assistant Coach Yesenia Garcia and Danielle Saucedo for second most goals in a season, Barron surpassed the two with her 29th goal of the season just 6:21 into the second half.  Launching a kick from beyond midfield into the stiff north wind, Olimpia Bonilla found Barron as she broke behind the defense enroute to scoring her historic goal. Coincidentally the event occurred on Garcia's birthday with the pass coming from Bonilla, who is a fellow Utah native and former high school adversary.  Adding to the irony, Bonilla is partially responsible for bringing Barron to Barton as she had recommended Barron to Head Coach Aaron Avila this summer.

The Lady Cougars wrapped up their scoring midway through the second half as Nebraska freshman Molly Hausmann finished up a Jessica Rosenberg pass from just outside the eighteen past the diving Orozco.
