Barton women’s soccer lose 2-0 battle to No. 1 Hutchinson

Hutchinson took an early 1-0 lead just twelve minutes in when Courtney Gahagen found Melissa Hetherington who launched a 30-yard blast inside the far post past a diving Barton goalkeeper Cecilee Horlacher.  The Blue Dragons Jamie Smith increased to lead to 2-0 with three minutes remaining in the half on a rebounded missed header by Danielle Sheehy coming off a corner kick.  Utilizing an offensive attack in favor of a south wind, Hutchinson controlled most of the first half getting off nine shots to Barton's two.

Barton had scoring opportunities including late in the first half when leading scorer Bianca Barron beat the Hutchinson defense three minutes left in the half but was thwarted by recently named KJCCC Goalkeeper of the Week Eunice Figueroa to keep the Lady Cougars scoreless.

Barron nearly cut the deficit to one sixteen minutes into the second half after a Horlacher kick from goal carried to the north end where Barron controlled and launched a ten yard shot just missing the far post.  Facing a sagging Blue Dragon defense and continuing to utilizing the wind advantage, Barton outshot Hutchinson seven to five in the second half but could only get two shots on goal.
