Barton women’s soccer opens 2012 season with shutout victory

"Today was a very good first game for us," said Coach Avila. "Northwest was a good team and gave us a lot of challenges we adjusted to."

The Trappers outplayed the Lady Cougars in the first half, taking a four to three shot advantage to the intermission.

"The first half was pretty typical in a season opener with both teams playing with nerves and out of sync," said Avila. "They pressured us first half which limited our possessions.  However the second half we settled down, possessed the ball much better, and created chances at goal."

Barton outshot Northwest six to two in the second half and limited good scoring chances in earning Great Bend's Stephanie Lomas her first victory as a Barton goalkeeper.

"We really defended well as team and limited their possessions," Avila said. "We closed up spaces and overall I was really pleased with all the girls' hard work throughout the entire game."
