Mader and McMullen fashion pair of victories, as Barton Wrestling concludes the season at National Tournament
The Barton Community College wrestling team saw its' season end on day one of the 2025 NJCAA Wrestling National Championships held at the Mid America Center in Council Bluffs, Iowa on Friday.
With five wrestlers competing and representing the Cougars, Barton finished the National Tournament with 12 total points to place 37th out of 58 teams that had representatives competing in the two-day tournament.
Individually, Skyler McMullen (141-pounds) and Jarret Mader (149-pounds) mended the deepest tournament runs, each reaching the consolation second round of 16 before bowing out finishing with 2-2 records.
Receiving a bye to begin his tournament quest, McMullin put together two straight wins in the consolation bracket virtue of falls following a first bout defeat to 12th seeded Jacob Finlinson of Snow. In his first consolation round match, McMullen needed just 4:55 to pin Ridgewater's Kyler Sherk with his second back flatting coming in quick stoppage of 59-seconds to advance into the second round of 16 before falling to Ethan Boulton of North Idaho.
Drawing one of Barton's two opening round matches, Mader slipped to the backside suffering a heartbreaking late 4-3 decision to Josh Hannan of Clackamas. Receiving a bye to begin his backside climb, Mader distributed a pair of tech falls for his lone victories beginning with 16th seed Nicholas Ewan of Jamestown winning 18-3 with the second 15-point victory coming in his next tilt with a 17-2 result over Ryan Findlay of Thaddeus Stevens. Mader's two-year Barton career would conclude suffering a late first period fall to Silas Thompson of Northeastern.
Barton also saw Nathan Agudzi-Addo (285-pounds) earn the other lone victory over the course of the tournament. Suffering an opening period fall to 4th seeded Ray Griffin of North Idaho, Agudzi-Addo stayed alive for one more round on the backside squeezing out a late third period fall over A.J. Wedge of Umpqua before being hit with his second defeat to a seeded opponent early in the third period of the first round of the consolation 16 to 14th seeded Peyton Wentzel of Thaddeus Stevens.
Also representing the Cougars at the tournament was freshman Jamal Garrett (125-pounds) and sophomore Kayden Blake (157-pounds) each going 0-2.
