Bridgette Griffin is in her third season as women’s basketball assistant coach.
In her previous two seasons, Griffin has helped guide the Cougars to two straight Region VI title games. A pre-season pick of seventh place, the Cougars went 8-1 in the final nine games to finish 4th in the conference race at 15-9, with the loss coming in the championship game to end the season at 20-13.
Three Cougars earned post-season accolades led by Jenny Nkem Womsi voted as the Co-Newcomer of the Year in landing on the 2nd team of the All-KJCCC and All-Region VI selections. Brennan Kirchhoff garnered 3rd team honors with Acorionna Lard selected along with Womsi, on the Region VI All-Tournament team.
Off the court, the Cougars were national champions in the classroom, compiling a team 3.79 GPA to lead all members of NJCAA women's basketball. Seven Cougars achieved a perfect 4.0 GPA while three landed on the 2nd team (3.80-3.99) and two on the 3rd team (3.60-3.79).
In her first season on the Cougars’ bench, Griffin helped the Cougars tie for the Jayhawk West title at 17-5 and finished the year with the most victories in Region VI in compiling a 21-5 record after falling in Region VI championship game.
Three sophomores earned post-season recognition with Queen Ulabo earning 2nd team All-American, 1st team All-Conference and All-Region VI honors while Vanessa Oduah and Tiffany Dortland earned 1st Team All-Conference and 2nd Team All-Region VI nods.
Griffin made the transition to Great Bend from the west coast after serving as assistant at College of Marin (2019-2020) where she helped shape and develop a new program and culture.
Entering the basketball coaching ranks at Green Mountain High School in Denver, Colorado, Griffin assisted the varsity girls into the state tournament’s Sweet 16 and a 17-6 regular season record. During this time, Griffin also assisted at nearby NCAA DII institutions, Metropolitan State helping the 2017-18 team to a 23-9 round and the second round of the NCAA DII tournament, followed by a short stint at Colorado Christian University for the 2018-19 season.
Griffin received her Business Administration bachelor’s degree and dual minor (Sports Recreation Management and Marketing) from Ashford University in 2016. A three-sport athlete, Griffin helped contribute to a 24-7 record and the 2015 NAIA Division II Basketball Championship while earning accolades in an Academic All-Conference selection, awarded the NAIA Champion of Character, and Ashford’s 2016 Inspirational Athlete of the Year recipient.
A native of East Moline, Illinois, Griffin competed collegiately her first two years at Black Hawk College in the NJCAA Arrowhead Conference.
