  • Barton goes 1-2 at Region VI tournament; finishes season 11-31

    The Barton Community College softball team finished up its 2010 season with a 1-2 mark at the Region VI Tournament held at Wilkins Stadium in Wichita this past weekend. Barton won its opener against Colby by a 4-1 score then lost to Seward and Butler – the top two seeds – in the next two contests to finish the season with an 11-31 record. The Cougars played the 1st two games Friday then finished up Saturday on the campus of Wichita State University. Seward eventually won the tournament and move to the NJCAA National Tournament later this month in St. George, Utah. Seward is now 47-12 for the year.
  • Cougars lose pair to No. 11 Saints; face Colby to open Region VI play

    The Barton Community College softball team lost its final two regular season games to Seward County Friday afternoon, falling to the No. 11 ranked Saints 6-3 and 12-2 at Cougar Fields. Barton, which earlier in the week picked up a forfeit win from Luna College (NM), is now 10-29 on the season and finished Jayhawk West play 2-14. Seward won the West and will be the No. 1 seed in the upcoming Region VI tournament. The Saints are 44-12 overall and were 13-3 in the West. Barton will be the No. 5, taking on No. 4 Colby to start the tournament at Wichita State University’s Wilkins Stadium Friday at 10 am.
  • Barton splits region contests with Butler; Seward here Friday

    The Barton Community College softball team split a doubleheader with Butler Tuesday afternoon in Region VI play at Cougar Fields in Great Bend. The Cougars won the opener in a tightly fought 1-0 affair then fell 8-0 in the nightcap for the split. The win was the 2nd for Barton in region play as the Cougars improved to 2-12 in region play and 9-28 overall. The loss hurt Butler in its pursuit of a top seed in the region and the Jayhawk West title. Butler is now 8-4 in the region and 37-11 overall. That is two games behind Seward at 10-2 and 41-11. Barton can now help Butler out Friday as Seward visits Cougar Fields at 3 pm.
  • Cougars lose at Butler; Brown Mackie games cancelled

    The Barton Community College softball team dropped two games to Butler in Region VI play Wednesday afternoon in El Dorado. Butler won the opener by an 11-1 score then captured a 5-0 win in the nightcap. Barton is now 8-27 overall and 1-11 in the region. Butler is currently 2nd in the region to Seward. The Grizzlies are 7-3 and 36-10 overall. Barton was schedule to play Brown Mackie today in Salina but that contest has been cancelled. Barton will wind up its regular season over the next week-plus with three doubleheaders. Barton will host the top two teams in the West – Butler and Seward – next week to wrap up region play then host McCook (Neb) for a twinbill May 3.
  • Barton splits games at Colby Tournament

    The Barton Community College softball team split 4 games over the weekend in Colby at the Alan Wolf Tournament. Barton went 1-1 both days, losing its opener Saturday to Luna College (NM) then beating Lamar College (Colo). Barton again dropped its opener Sunday to Colby before defeated Luna to end the event. Barton lost doubleheaders at Seward County and Garden City earlier in the week in Region VI play. The Cougars are now 8-25 on the season. The Cougars wrap up their extended road tour with games at Butler and Brown Mackie this week.
  • Barton sweeps Brown Mackie split in Nebraska for 3-1 stretch

    The Barton Community College softball team picked up some much needed wins over an extended weekend, splitting games at McCook (Nebraska) Friday then sweeping Brown Mackie Monday at Cougars Fields in Great Bend. It was the 1st series sweep for Barton this year. The Cougars are also on a 3-game winning streak, doubling their win total in the process. Barton is now 6-19 for the season. The Cougars will step back in Region VI play later this week when they play road games at Seward Wednesday and Garden City Thursday.
  • Barton picks up win in nightcap to earn split with Colby

    The Barton Community College softball team capped Thursday’s doubleheader with a win over Colby to earn a split for the day in Region IV regular season play at Cougar Fields. Barton got a stellar pitching performance from Michelle Balliett in the finale for the Cougars’ 3rd win of the season and the 1st in region action. Barton nearly pulled off a huge comeback in the opening game, rallying from 5 down the 7th, but lost the contest in extra innings, 10-6 in 9. Barton is now 3-18 for the season and 1-5 in region play. Colby is 20-12 and 6-4. The Cougars will step out of region for its next 2 twinbills, heading to Nebraska to play McCook Friday then hosting Brown Mackie Monday.
  • Cougars come up short against ranked teams at Johnson Tournament

    The Barton Community College softball team battled with some very good softball over the weekend in Overland Park at the Johnson County Tournament, but came home with an 0-4 mark. The Cougars lost to 2 opponents ranked in the Top 6 in the NJCAA Division II poll and another who had just 5 losses on the season. The losses dropped Barton to 2-17 overall this season. Barton is back home Wednesday when Colby pays a visit in Region VI play. Colby is 19-11 overall this season and 5-3 in Region VI play.
  • Cougars finish home stand 1-3 against Hutch, Cloud

    The Barton Community College softball team finished up a brief home stand – the 1st of the season – with a 1-3 mark against Hutchinson and Cloud County at Cougars Fields. The Cougars’ home opener was moved up one day due to weather conditions, with Barton splitting a pair with Hutchinson Thursday. The Cougars lost the opener by a 9-3 score then completed the nightcap with a 4-1 win over the Blue Dragons. Barton lost a pair of contest Saturday in another shuffling of the schedule. Barton hosted Cloud County after the tournament at Cloud was cancelled due to the weather in Concordia.
