No. 8 Cougars salvage opening weekend split out west #GoBarton

The No. 8 ranked Barton Community College men's tennis team opened their 2025 season splitting its pair of matches with NCAA Division II programs Metropolitan State University and Colorado College.

The Cougars drew the short end of Saturday's season opener with Metropolitan State falling 4-3 before concluding the weekend with a convincing 5-2 victory over the host Tigers of Colorado College.

Splitting the doubles point over the two days, the tandem of Oliver Naude and Mohhamed Abuzed went a clean 2-0 at No. 3 doubles with a 6-1 win on Saturday over Metropolitan State's Lluc Limongi Ollers and Maximo Lawlor before locking Barton's clean doubles sweep on Sunday in a 6-3 victory over Colorado College's Aiden Little and Nick Anderson.

Individually, the trio of No. 14 ranked Gabriel Garay, Shane Tapera and Hayden Loffler directed the Cougar lineup going a perfect 2-0 in their single matches over the weekend.

No. 3 singles Abuzed turned in a 1-1 weekend regrouping from a tough third set tiebreaking loss on Saturday with a straight set 6-2, 6-4 victory on Sunday.

Sitting at 1-1 on the young season, the Cougars will continue the road trip Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 against Bethal College.
