Oosterbaan and Bottcher earn Week 1 Barton Sports Weekly Athletics Award Honors #GoBarton

Barton Sports Student Athletes of the Week for week of 8/23/22

Barton volleyball player Iris Oosterbaan and men's soccer player Dennis Bottcher have been named the week 1 "Barton Sports Weekly Athletics Award Honors" sponsored by Great Bend's Indentifications.

Freshman Iris Oosterbaan helped key Barton's .249 attack this weekend in the Cougars' 4-0 opener in Illinois.  Running the 5-1 offense, Oosterbaan recorded 8.77 assists per set with two kills and seven service aces while defensively putting up 8 blocks and 31 digs.

Oosterbaan and the Cougars sustainedd the hot stretch over the weekend at the Northeast Tournament held in Nolfork, Nebraska winning its' three matches in less than a 24-hour span. Barton will return to Nebraska for the McCook Tournament next weekend with a Friday 9:00 a.m. match against Western Wyoming Community College.

Dennis Bottcher had a solid Barton debut rejecting all three shots on frame Friday helping the Cougars to a season opening 3-0 victory over Northeastern JC. Bottcher provided the game's biggest save just eight minutes after Barton took a 1-0 lead rejecting a close range header attempt ensuring the Cougars kept the momentum and eventual clean slate.

Bottcher and Barton earned split results over the weekend in Council Bluffs, Iowa defeating Indian Hills Community College 4-2 before having it's upset bid over top ranked Iowa Western Community College spoiled in OT 1-0. The Cougars will open conference play Wednesday welcoming in Garden City Community College in a 1:00 p.m. kickoff from the Cougar Soccer Complex.
