Barton bats wake up late in 13-3 victory over Hesston #GoBarton

Tied 3-3 entering the sixth inning at Lawson Biggs Field Tuesday night, the Barton Community College baseball team exploded for 10 runs over the final three frames earning a 13-3 eighth-inning run rule victory over the Larks of Hesston College.

Jordan Ellison produced three of his game high four RBIs with the first triple in the Cougar sixth with Connor Allen legging out the second triple four batters later plating a pair more capping the six run frenzy.

Winners of seven straight, Barton improves their season record to 23-9 while the Larks see their mini two game winning streak snapped dropping to 12-23 overall. Barton will return to conference play Thursday afternoon in hosting the first leg of the weekend four pack against the Blue Dragons of Hutchinson Community College. First pitch in Thursday's twin bill scheduled for 1:00 p.m. from Lawson-Biggs Field before the series swaps locations Saturday in heading to Hutchinson's Hobart-Detter Stadium.

Hesston jumped out to lead 3-1 heading into the bottom of the third inning before a Henry Hayman one-out two RBI single knotted things up brining home Tanner Schrag's leadoff walk and error allowing Alex Rodgers to reach base.

Ensuing a pair of scoreless innings, Barton grasped the lead for good in the home sixth as the first of Dryden Howse's two RBIs came on a single through the right side knocking in Ellison's one-out double.

In the seventh, a Rodgers leadoff single stretching his hitting streak to seven straight games, a Sanchez walk and Hayman intentional walk loaded the bases with none away for Ellison. Three pitches later, the freshman provided the big blow clearing the bases with his second triple of the year. Ellison came across for the fourth run in the inning on a wild pitch while four batters later Allen capped the six-run inning producing his second triple of the year driving home a Howse single and Colter Maldonado hit-by-pitch.

Brian Bartels delivers pitch against Hesston College The Cougars would walk it off in run rule fashion in the eighth adding a trio of runs with Ellison producing a RBI double tacked by a Howse RBI groundout and Maldonado walk-off RBI single.

Starter Logan Phillips earned a no decision, allowing two runs, one unearned while surrendering four hits before giving way to Cade Kohlmeier. Kohlmeier tossed 3.2-innings in scattering two hits, one unearned run and fanning a pair of Larks.

Bryan Bartels notched his third victory of the season striking out the side in his one inning tossed improving his scoreless stretch to 2.1-innings.

Ian Lanik and Tyrus Riley made it three straight perfect innings for the Cougars working perfect seventh and eighth frames with Riley punching out two of the three batters he faced.
