Barton Baseball sweeps Week 6 KJCCC Weekly Honors #GoBarton

Barton Baseball's Owen Reynolds and Ricardo Sanchez KJCCC Week Six Pitcher and Player of the Week

Barton Community College baseball's left-handed pitcher Owen Reynolds and infielder Ricardo Sanchez swept the week six KJCCC Division I weekly awards on Tuesday. Reynolds claimed the conference's Pitcher of the Week, while Sanchez seized the Player of the Week for the second straight week.

Reynolds honor comes on the heels of a 10-strikeout performance against Dodge City Community College in the Cougars' opening 9-1 victory in Saturday's twin bill. The freshman allowed just one run scattering three hits and walking one. The 10-strikeout performance fell one shy off his career-high 11 punch outs sat earlier this season against Western Nebraska.

The Wichita, KS, native is tied for eighth in the Region VI with three wins this year while supporting a ninth best 3.68 earned run average over 22-innings of work.

Sanchez the reigning conference player of the week sustained his tear at the plate posting his second straight week with an average above the .600 mark. The freshman fashioned a 12-for-20 week at the dish producing seven extra base knocks including the eventual game winning home run in the second of the four game series against Dodge City.

Driving in 14 runs of which 10 coming in Saturday's doubleheader sweep, the freshman crossed the plate nine of the 14 times reaching base while drawing a pair of walks and supporting a 1.686 on base percentage and 1.050 slugging percentage for the week.

Sanchez leads all of Region VI in batting average and runs batted in holding a .493 average and knocking in 39 through 21 games played.

The awards are the duos second of the year and the clubs third and fourth of the season.

Sitting atop the Jayhawk West standings following two weekends of action, the Cougars will look to continue the trend opening a weekend four game set with the first two on Thursday at Lawson-Biggs Field in a 1:00 p.m. first pitch twin bill before traveling to El Dorado on Saturday to close out the weekend set.
