Barton Baseball falls for first time this year dropping road doubleheader at 7th ranked Cowley #GoBarton

The Barton Community College baseball team got an early season test Sunday afternoon in Arkansas City, KS as the Cougars dropped its' doubleheader to 7th ranked Cowley College 2-1 and 10-3.

Falling for the first time this season the Cougars drop to 6-2 on the young campaign while the Tigers improve their mark to 6-2.

Barton will continue its' road swing with a weekend trip to Kansas City Kansas Community College with the first of the three-game set to get underway Friday with a 2:00 p.m. first pitch.

Offense would be hard to come by as the Cougar bats generated just 10 hits on the day while striking out 25 times in the twin bill. 

Game 1 Recap
Ricardo Sanchez generated the lone hit for either side through the opening three innings as both starters were locked into a pitcher's dual. Connor Allen fabricated the lone Barton run launching a 1-0 pitch to left leading off the Cougar fourth for his first-round tripper of the season.

Zach Thornton was nails over his scheduled three innings of work allowing just two walks no hits and striking out three in the no decision effort. 

A pair of walks kept the door open for Cowley in the bottom of the fifth as the Tigers cashed in for the tying and eventual game winning run off Barton's lone miscue with two outs.

Managing just two hits over the first four innings, Barton would go down over the final two frames and for the fourth and fifth times in the contest.

Allen and Sanchez were the lone Cougars to notch hits in the effort while Alex Rodgers and Shawn Marquis were the lone Cougars to not go down on strikes.

Game Two Recap
Barton jumped out to their lone lead in the opening frame with a Rodgers leadoff double later scoring on a two-out RBI double by Jordan Ellison.

Cowley would storm back with a leadoff homerun before an ensuing double and single would lead to one of two RBI groundouts for Cowley capping the three-run inning.

Stranding a Jaden Wiley double in the second and Rodgers single in the third, Barton got a key knock in the fourth as a two-out Wiley single drove in a one out Shawn Marquis walk pulling the Cougars back to within 3-2.

The Tigers would storm back in the home half producing its second three spot of the game with an RBI ground out and two RBI two-out single pushing the score to 6-2 after four. Cowley generated its' third trio of runs in the bottom of the six pushing the Cougar deficit to 9-2.

Sanchez produced Barton's final run of the contest with a double knocking in Rodgers following his two out single, swipe of second and advancing to third on a passed ball.

Cowley put a rest to the scoring in the bottom of the eighth with an RBI single as the Cougars would go down in order in the ninth settling the score at 10-2.

Rodgers paced the Barton bats with a 3-for-4 nightcap crossing for two of the three runs while lacing a double.

Sanchez and Wiley produced an RBI a piece recording a pair of knocks with Ellison accounting for the final run driven in ending his day 1-for-3 at the dish.

Pitching by a committee starter Hunter Hesseltine took his first loss of the season giving up three runs on three hits.

Owen Reynolds, David Stuart, Ian Lanik, Tegan Cain, Hunter Jones, Logan Redeker and Carson Cornelius all pitched in relief.
