    The Barton Community College baseball team had its season come to an end Saturday as a Cougar rally fell short 7-5 to Fort Scott Community College this morning at Wichita's Lawrence Dumont Stadium in an elimination game of the eight-team Central District Region VI Tournament. The loss concludes Barton's season at 42-18 while Fort Scott improves to 38-23 advancing to Sunday's 1:00 p.m. game against the loser of Hutchinson-Johnson County.

    The Barton Community College baseball team fell 5-2 to Neosho County Community College this morning at Wichita's Lawrence Dumont Stadium in the opening game of the eight-team Central District Region VI Tournament. The loss bounces the 42-17 Cougars to the elimination side of the bracket to play in Saturday's 10:00 a.m. contest against the loser of the Fort Scott-Cowley contest while Neosho improves to 40-20 and will play the winner of the contest at 4:00 p.m. Saturday.

  • Twenty hits powers Barton Baseball to first round sweep of Allen

    The Barton Community College baseball team pounded out twenty hits Saturday at Lawson-Biggs Field putting an end to Allen Community College’s season 15-6 in first round Central District Region VI Tournament action. The Cougars scored in all but the first two innings including a six-run sixth and a dagger four-run eighth to sweep the best-of-three series concluding Allen’s year at 28-27. The victory improves Barton to 42-16 on the season and advances the Cougars to double elimination play beginning 10:00 a.m. Friday at Wichita’s Lawrence Dumont Stadium. Barton will play the winner of Sunday’s Cloud County at Neosho County winner-take-all game in Chanute.

    The Barton Community College baseball team held off an Allen Community College rally Friday at Lawson-Biggs Field to come away with a 7-5 win in the opening round of the Central District Region VI Tournament. Behind a combined five-hit nine strikeout pitching performance, the Cougars erased a two run deficit with seven unanswered while getting a combined five hitter to hold off the Red Devils. The victory improves Barton to 41-16 on the season but more importantly puts the Cougars ahead in the best-of-three series as Allen drops its fourteenth consecutive slipping to 28-26.

  • Barton Baseball regular season finale moved to Washburn University

    Thankfully the Barton Community College baseball team has already wrapped up hosting a home playoff series as the No. 18 ranked Cougars’ final regular season games have been moved out of town due to the amount of moisture in the Great Bend area over the weekend. The series finale doubleheader against Cloud County Community College will now be played at Washburn University’s Falley Field in Topeka with a 1:30 p.m. first pitch to conclude the regular season. Also with the change, there will not be any local radio or web streaming but live stats will be available at www.BartonSports.com, as well as, social media updates on Twitter via “BartonSports”.

    The Barton Community College baseball team concluded its regular season today traveling to Topeka and coming away with a doubleheader split in hosting Cloud County Community College. Having moved the games to Washburn University’s Falley Field due to wet field conditions at Lawson-Biggs Field, the No. 18 ranked Cougars took game one 5-2 but dropped the four-game series finale 7-2 as the T-Birds scored seven runs in the final three innings to earn the split.
  • Cougar Baseball and Thunderbirds trade one-run victories

    For the second time in three games, a ninth inning rally fell a run short as the No. 18 ranked Barton Community College baseball team split Friday’s doubleheader with Cloud County Community College. Barton plated five runs in the opener’s third inning to hold off the T-Birds 5-4 but the tide flipped in the night cap with Cloud County being the one to put up a five-run third inning to gain the edge before capitalizing on the fourth Barton error of the game providing the winning run in a 10-9 score. The split ended Barton’s hopes of chasing the Jayhawk West crown while tightening up the chase for second place as the Cougars come back to the field at 20-10 and 39-15 overall. In its own chase to hold on to the sixth place in the West, Cloud County moved one step closer opening up a two game lead over Butler at 11-19 and 26-28 on the season. Due to forecasted weather rolling through the area, the final two games of the series at Lawson-Biggs Field have been pushed back to Monday beginning at 1:00 p.m.

  • Rally fall short for No. 18 Barton Baseball at No. 6 Hutchinson

    A ninth inning rally fell a run short Wednesday night as the Barton Community College baseball team dropped a non-conference game at No. 6 Hutchinson Community College. Trailing by four after a Blue Dragon four-run third inning, the Cougars climbed back before striking back for two ninth inning runs but left two stranded in coming up short. The loss snapped Barton eleven game win streak slipping to 38-14 on the season while the Blue Dragons captured their thirteenth consecutive victory improving to 39-11. Returning to conference play this weekend to wrap up the regular season, the Cougars look to hold on to the second spot sitting at 19-9 as Cloud County Community College with a four game win streak at 25-27 look to hold on to the sixth slot in the standings coming to Lawson-Biggs Field with a 10-18 Jayhawk West record. With forecasted rains in the forecast, the four-game set is slated to begin with a pair of games at 1:00 p.m. on Friday with the remaining two games set for 1:00 p.m. Monday.

  • Barton Baseball secures home playoff series with second straight conference sweep on eleventh straight win

    The Barton Community College baseball team completed its second straight conference sweep on Sunday taking the remaining pair of games at Colby Community College. The Cougars jumped out to eight run lead through the first three innings to take the seven inning contest 10-6 before erasing a two run deficit getting a four-hit combined pitching performance for a 6-3 series clincher. The sweep over the weekend leap frogged the Cougars over the Trojans in the conference standings as Barton’s eleventh straight win puts them alone in second place in the West standings at 19-9 while improving to 38-13 on the season. Colby drops back to the fourth slot in the standings at 17-11 and 26-20 overall. Barton’s next action comes Wednesday as the Cougars travel to the equally red-hot and winners of twelve straight Hutchinson Community College for a non-conference 5:00 p.m. nine inning affair before wrapping up the regular season this weekend hosting Cloud County Community College.

    The Barton Community College baseball team won its ninth straight with a record performance in Saturday’s doubleheader sweep at Colby Community College. The Cougars took game one 16-10 before finishing off the Trojans in the nine inning nightcap 8-2. In the process of handing the Trojans their first Saturday sweep, the Cougars’ Michael Sinks became Barton’s all-time hits leader surpassing George Martinez’ 2001-02 mark of 163. The victories move Barton into a second place tie with the Trojans in the Jayhawk West standings at 17-9 improving to 36-13 as Colby drops to 26-18. The teams will wrap up the four-game series on Sunday with an 11:00 a.m. first pitch.

    Guaranteeing its first conference series victory since March 4 with a 7-1 game one win Saturday, the Barton Community College baseball team returned to the Lawson-Biggs Field diamond determined to complete the mission as the Cougars jumped out to a first inning lead and never looked back in the 11-1 eighth inning win to sweep Seward County Community College. Four-run innings, the first in the opener’s sixth inning and again in the fourth inning of the series finale, helped lead Barton to their first ever sweep over the Saints. The weekend’s results move the Cougars into a third place tie in the Jayhawk West standings at 15-9 and 33-13 while Seward County stays in the sixth spot at 9-15 dropping to 16-28 on the year. Barton will have a Tuesday non-conference game hosting Hesston College at 5:00 p.m. before returning back to conference play traveling to Colby for a weekend four-game series.

    The Barton Community College baseball team experienced the thrill of not one, but two, walk-off homeruns Friday afternoon at Lawson-Biggs Field as the Cougars swept Seward County Community College in the Jayhawk doubleheader 4-3 in an extra eight inning of play and a 17-7 sixth inning run rule. The victories improve Barton to 13-9 in conference play and 31-13 overall while Seward County drops to 9-16 and 17-22 overall. The teams will wrap up their four-game series on Saturday with the doubleheader start time moved up to 11:00 a.m. due to forecasted afternoon weather implications.

    A non-conference doubleheader was just what the doctor ordered as the Barton Community College baseball team took out their past weekend’s frustrations on the junior varsity squad from Bethany College, scoring in each of their frames at-bat Tuesday at Lawson-Biggs Field to earn a pair of five inning rule contests. The Cougars pounded out nine extra base hits in the opener as twenty total hits led to a 15-5 victory before a nine-run first inning powered the doubleheader sweep with a 22-4 win. Barton improves to 29-13 on the season and sits in fourth place in the Jayhawk West at 11-9 headed to their upcoming four game conference series against Seward County Community College as the surging Saints come to Lawson-Biggs Field with a 9-11 conference record and 16-23 on the season having won six of their last eight ball games. First pitch for both Friday and Saturday’s doubleheaders slated for 1:00 p.m.

    The Barton Community College baseball team ended a disappointing sixty minute trip south for the weekend, returning home Sunday with its fourth straight conference series split as the Cougars and Pratt Community College split another pair of games to wrap up the four game set. Barton was dominant in game one pounding out fifteen hits and an eight strikeout performance on the mound for a 13-1 victory but couldn’t keep the momentum rolling into the nightcap in suffering a 10-5 defeat. The 2-2 weekend leaves the Cougars at 11-9 in conference play and 27-13 overall while Pratt stands at 5-14 in the Jayhawk and 15-23 overall. Barton will step out of conference play for a doubleheader on Tuesday as the Cougars welcome the junior varsity of Bethany College in a 4:00 p.m. first pitch at Lawson-Biggs Field.

    The Barton Community College baseball team rallied to steal one victory but couldn’t overcome a four run inning in the nightcap as the Cougars split Saturday’s doubleheader at Pratt Community College. Forcing extra innings with a seventh inning two run rally, the Cougars took the opener in the eighth inning getting a three run home run to win 6-4. Looking for the sweep, Pratt had other plans putting four runs on the board to break a two-all deadlock going on to a 7-2 victory. The split moves Barton to 10-8 in conference play and 26-12 while Pratt stands at 4-13 in the Jayhawk and 14-22 overall. The teams will conclude the four-game series on Sunday with a 1:00 p.m. doubleheader at Pratt’s Stanion Field.

    The Barton Community College baseball team once again received a solid pitching outing helping the No. 22 ranked Cougars split today’s doubleheader against No. 14 Hutchinson Community College. The Blue Dragons buried Barton in a seven run hole through the first four innings of game one as three Cougar home runs were not enough in the 8-4 loss. The Barton pitching staff responded to the call limiting the hot Hutchinson bats in game two while getting a timely two-out hit to earn the split with a 3-2 win.

    Due to the amount of rain having swept through the area, Sunday’s Barton Community College baseball doubleheader hosting Hutchinson Community College has been postponed. The No. 22 ranked Cougars and No. 14 Blue Dragons will resume and conclude their four-game series with a 3:00 p.m. doubleheader on Monday after the teams split Friday’s action. Hutchinson took the opener in a pitcher’s duel 3-1 victory while Barton had another strong pitching performance to go along with twelve hits to capture the nightcap 9-1. The Cougars stand in fifth place of the Jayhawk at 8-6 and 24-10 on the season while Hutchinson is in the second spot at 13-5 and 25-10 overall.

    The Barton Community College baseball team split today’s doubleheader against Hutchinson Community College beginning the four-game series on Friday due to forecasted weather moving through the area. In a pitcher’s duel with the No.14 Blue Dragons coming out on top 3-1 in the first game at Lawson-Biggs Field, the nationally receiving votes Cougars strung together two big innings in the nightcap while getting another strong pitching outing to win 9-1 in splitting the day’s contest. Barton moves to 8-6 in conference play and 24-10 overall while Hutchinson moves to 13-5 in the Jayhawk and 25-10 on the season. The teams will renew the series on Sunday in a projected 2:00 p.m. first pitch for doubleheader play.

    Facing uncharted waters in the 2017 season, the No. 18 ranked Barton Community College baseball team rose to the challenge this past weekend earning a four-game split at Garden City Community College. Dealt its first one-day sweep of the season as the Busters grabbed Saturday’s pair of games 4-1 and an eight run comeback for a disheartening 15-14 twelfth inning defeat, the Cougars answered Sunday’s call to action with a 4-0 shutout before a series finale 4-1 victory. The series split leaves Barton at 7-5 in conference play and 23-9 overall while Garden City moves to 10-6 in the Jayhawk and 22-14 on the season. Barton will step out of conference play for its next contest, traveling to McPherson on Wednesday for a 3:00 p.m. nine inning contest against the junior varsity squad of McPherson College. The Cougars next conference action comes this weekend as No. 8 ranked Hutchinson Community College rolls in to Lawson-Biggs Field for a four game series with 1:00 p.m. doubleheaders on both Saturday and Sunday.

    For the third time this season, a member of the Barton Community College baseball team has been awarded the weekly conference award as Jarrett Seaton becomes the latest for his performance last week in receiving the KJCCC Division I Co-Pitcher of the Week honor. Sharing the week six award with Neosho County’s Mason Knopp, Seaton joins fellow Cougar hurler Mason Hiser to receive the honor and first baseman Trey Pittman.

    It didn’t have the feel of a weekend showdown of ranked teams, but the Tuesday afternoon doubleheader at Lawson-Biggs Field was still a battle of top twenty squads as the Barton Community College baseball team split the doubleheader with Iowa Western Community College. Behind a seven run fifth inning the No. 20 Reivers took the opener 15-9 but the No. 13 ranked Cougars were able to salvage the split behind a four run fourth inning in holding on for a 5-3 victory. Now 21-7, Barton’s next action will come this weekend with a 1:00 p.m. first pitch in a four-game conference set at Garden City Community College. Iowa Western leaves Great Bend 14-9 on the year taking the field on Wednesday in a 2:00 p.m. doubleheader at No. 12 Hutchinson Community College.

    The Barton Community College baseball team were within ninety feet of a tying run on Sunday but instead ended up with another split as the No. 13 Cougars and Dodge City Community College each won a game to half the weekend’s four game series at Lawson-Biggs Field. The Cougars took the opener 10-4 scoring in each of its six at-bats but in the nightcap a couple of Conquistador big innings were enough as Barton’s leadoff ninth inning triple came up short in a 9-8 defeat. The series split leaves Barton at 5-3 in conference play and 20-6 overall while Dodge City leaves Great Bend at 9-3 in the Jayhawk and 17-7 on the season. Barton will have a day’s rest before No. 20 ranked Iowa Western Community College rolls in to Lawson-Biggs Field for a Tuesday 2:00 p.m. doubleheader.
