  • Great Bend talent commits to Barton Baseball

    Great Bend High School’s Bryce Beck and Tristan Hall have committed to join the Barton Community College baseball team for 2014-15 season. Beck, a first team All-WAC infielder, and Hall, who joined Beck on the All-WAC team earning honorable mention honors, committed to the Cougars as Head Coach Brent Biggs continues to build for his inaugural season leading the baseball program.

    The Barton Community College Board of Trustees approved the hiring of Brent Biggs to take over the Baseball program at the monthly board meeting held today at the College. A Great Bend, Kansas, native, Biggs was approved to fill the vacancy left by Mike Warren who announced his retirement earlier this month following thirty years of service leading the Cougars.

    The Barton Community College baseball team landed three players on the KJCCC All-Conference Western Division Team announced recently. Sophomore Scott Tyler and freshman Grant Watkins lead the selections earning second team honors while freshman hurler Alexander Evans landed on the honorable mention selection list.
  • Barton Baseball’s Bowman and Tyler to continue playing career at four-year level

    Barton Community College baseball players Jace Bowman and Scott Tyler were the first of the 2013-14 Cougars to commit to play on the four-year collegiate level. Both players signed during the fall signing period as Bowman committed to the University of Central Oklahoma in Edmond, Oklahoma, at the NCAA Division II level while Tyler committed to NCAA Division I Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana.

    Barton Community College Head Coach Mike Warren has officially resigned his position with the Cougar Baseball team. Warren leaves Barton after thirty years at the helm, going 904-630-1 and winning five Jayhawk Conference Western Division championships, two Western Sub-Regional championships, and earning four Western Division Coach of the Year honors.
  • Barton Baseball season comes to an end at Coffeyville

    The Barton Community College baseball team had its 2014 season come to an end Saturday as host Coffeyville Community College took the best of three series with a consecutive wins. The East’s third seeded Ravens scored three in the first inning to assume early command for a 8-2 win then ended the West’s sixth seeded Cougars hopes in game two with a six-run sixth in route to an 11-1 victory. Having won six straight entering the postseason contest, Barton sees their season come to an abrupt end, finishing at 32-25-1. Coffeyville improves to 36-21 and advances to the Region VI Super-Regional beginning next Friday in Wichita, Kansas.
  • Runs galore as Cougars sweep Pratt to wrap up regular season

    Lawson-Biggs Field was not a pitcher’s paradise Sunday as the Barton Community College baseball team outscored Pratt Community College 20-16 to complete the series sweep to close out the regular season. With uncharacteristic sustained 40mph gusting to 50mph winds blowing out to left field, routine fly balls were leaving the yard as seven homeruns were hit on the day’s near three hour seven inning contest. Barton finishes the regular season 32-23-1 and finished sixth in the conference season at 15-17 while Pratt’s season comes to an end at 20-34 and 7-25 in the Jayhawk. The Cougars will head to the East’s No. 3 seed Coffeyville Community College, 35-17 overall and 25-11 in the Jayhawk East, for a three-game series set to begin Saturday at Coffeyville’s Walter Johnson Park. First pitch for Saturday’s nine-inning doubleheader slated for 1:00 p.m. with Sunday’s if necessary nine inning game also scheduled for the same start time.
  • Warren gets 1000th as Cougars sweep in walk-off fashion

    The joy of sweeping a conference doubleheader quickly turned to the celebration of a milestone as the Barton Community College baseball team swept Pratt Community College 9-8 and 11-10 Saturday at Lawson-Biggs Field. The Cougars won both contests in walk-off fashion, winning game one with a Caleb Cherryholmes bases loaded walk and winning game two as freshman Trevor Turner blasted a deep center bases loaded single to set off a series of celebrations on the field. As the Cougars chased and mobbed Turner behind first base, Barton Head Coach was congratulated by Assistant Coach Roger Ward as the victory marked the 1000th of Warren’s coaching career. The mob of happy Cougars then quickly turned towards Warren, eventually catching and dowsing the 30th year Barton skipper with ice cold water. Having won No. 900 at Barton on Wednesday, Warren reaches the 1000 feat with one game left in the 2014 regular season as the teams will play the series finale at 1:00 p.m. on Sunday. The 31-23-1 Cougars improve to 14-17 in the conference while dropping Pratt to 20-33 on the season and 7-24 in the Jayhawk.
  • Barton Baseball kicks off final home stand weekend with Watch Dog night

    The Barton Community College baseball team will celebrate its continued support of Great Bend’s Lincoln Elementary “Watch Dog Program” this Friday evening as the Cougars begin a weekend series with Pratt Community College. The Cougars will recognize the participants of the program in a brief welcome at 5:45 p.m. at Lawson-Biggs Field, as well as enjoying an evening at the ballpark with concessions and free prizes given away throughout the evening. Barton and Pratt will undergo a four-game weekend series to conclude the regular season with first pitch of Friday’s nine inning game slated for 6:00 p.m.
  • Warren wins 900th, Barton Baseball sweeps non-conference doubleheader

    It was a memorable Wednesday at Lawson-Biggs Field as the Barton Community College baseball team scored fourteen runs in one inning and picked up a pair of non-conference victories over the junior varsity of Kansas Wesleyan University to earn Head Coach Mike Warren his 900th win at the Barton helm. The Cougars trailed by two in the fourth inning of game one before exploding for fourteen runs to earn a 20-10 run-rule win. Barton kept the fourteen theme into game two scoring fourteen more runs in the first two innings for another five inning shortened 16-3 win. Barton improved to 28-23-1 on the season while dropping the KWU JV to 4-6. Barton will wrap up the regular season and have its last home games of the season this weekend as Pratt Community College comes to Lawson-Biggs Field for a four game series. Barton sits in seventh place in the Jayhawk West at 11-17 with the Beavers in ninth at 7-21 in conference play and 20-30 overall. The teams will play a 6:00 p.m. nine inning game Friday to begin the series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 2:00 p.m. The series will conclude with a single nine inning contest on Sunday with first pitch slated for 1:00 p.m.
  • Barton Baseball secures region berth, drop weekend series at conference leading Hutchinson

    If there was a silver lining to the weekend series at Hutchinson’s Hobart-Detter Field, the Barton Community College baseball team clinched a spot in the upcoming Region VI Tournament. The downside for the Cougars was dropping three of four games to the No. 19 ranked Hutchinson Community College Blue Dragons. Hutchinson took Friday’s doubleheader 6-2 and 7-6 but the Cougars grabbed the first of Saturday’s twinbill 12-7. The Blue Dragons clinched the series with a fifth inning grand slam to win 8-3. The Cougars dropped to 26-23-1 on the season and 11-17 in conference while Hutchinson improved to 36-14 overall and sit atop the Jayhawk standings at 20-8. Barton will host the Kansas Wesleyan Junior Varsity in a 3:00 p.m. non-conference doubleheader on Wednesday before hosting Pratt Community College in a weekend series to determine the Cougars' seeding for regional play.
  • Barton Bullpen retires nine straight, Cougars score early and often in big win at Hesston

    The Barton Community College baseball team jumped out to a six run lead Tuesday then put the game away in the sixth inning cruising to the 14-6 non-conference win at Hesston College. The Cougars scored in five of the first six innings to build a three run lead then put the game out of reach with a six run sixth inning improving to 25-20-1 on the season. Barton returns to conference play this weekend traveling to Hutchinson Community College for a four-game series taking place on Friday and Saturday. The No. 11 ranked Blue Dragons sit atop of the Jayhawk standings at 17-7 and 29-13 overall while the Cougars need a big series to improve upon their 10-14 conference mark. First pitch for Friday and Saturday’s doubleheader scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at Hutchinson’s Hobart-Detter Field.
  • Cougars' rallies fall short in dropping weekend series with Garden City

    Needing to at least take 3-of-4 in the weekend series, the Barton Community College baseball team instead lost the last three games of the four game series at Lawson-Biggs Field as Garden City Community College took the series. Barton won game one 2-1 held Friday evening at Lawson-Biggs Field but dropped the second game of the doubleheader battling back from an eight run deficit to fall 11-10. Saturday the Cougars found themselves again in deep holes taking a 16-7 loss in game one then falling 14-10 in the nightcap. The weekend dropped Barton’s record to 24-20-1 on the season and 14-10 in conference play while Garden City improves to 27-18 overall and 17-11 in Jayhawk play. The Cougars will step outside conference play for Tuesday doubleheader at Hesston College before beginning a three-day four-game conference series at No. 11 Hutchinson Community College in Hutchinson, Kansas.

    It wasn’t pretty but the Barton Community College baseball team will take the non-conference win as the Cougars scored late then held on for a 5-4 over Brown Mackie College Thursday at Lawson-Biggs Field. The victory improves Barton’s season mark to 23-17-1 while Brown Mackie drops to 1-29. The Cougars return to conference action tomorrow as Garden City Community College comes to Lawson-Biggs Field for four-games. First pitch of Friday’s doubleheader is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. with Saturday’s doubleheader beginning at 1:00 p.m.
  • Cougar baseball splits for second straight day at Dodge City

    Splitting Saturday’s doubleheader, the Barton Community College baseball team split another doubleheader today in Dodge City as the teams concluded their weekend series. It took extra innings in game one as Dodge City got a two-out walk-off two-run homerun to win 10-8. The Cougars bounced back in the second game with a big five-run fifth inning to win the nightcap 5-2. The split takes the Cougars to 22-17-1 on the season and 9-11 in conference play while Dodge City moves to 25-15 overall and 13-11 in Jayhawk play. Barton’s next action will be Thursday as the Cougars step out of conference play for a 5:00 pm. nine-inning game at Lawson-Biggs Field against Brown Mackie College.

    The Barton Community College baseball team split a doubleheader today in Dodge City capturing a 6-4 win in game one over Dodge City Community College before falling 14-4 to the Conquistadors in game two. The split takes the Cougars to 21-16-1 on the season and 8-10 in conference play while Dodge City moves to 24-14 overall and 12-10 in Jayhawk play. The teams will wrap the series on Sunday with first pitch of the doubleheader scheduled for 1:00 p.m.

    The Barton Community College baseball team came from behind Wednesday in Hillsboro, Kansas, scoring six late runs to win 7-4 over the junior varsity squad of Tabor College. The Cougars trailed 3-0 into the fifth inning before getting a single run then tacked on three in both the seventh and eighth innings to get the non-conference win to improve to 20-15-1 on the season while Tabor drops to 1-2. The Cougars will return to conference action this Saturday against Dodge City Community College for a weekend series in Dodge City. First pitch for each day’s doubleheader scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
  • Red hot Cougar bats sweep doubleheader to take weekend series over MCC-Longview

    Batting .477 as a team on Sunday, the Barton Community College baseball team swept MCC-Longview at Lawson-Biggs Field 12-5 and 17-6. A day after pounding out twenty-six hits, the Cougars struck for thirty-one on day two scoring in all but one inning to split the weekend series against the Lakers. Barton improves to 19-15-1 on the season while MCC-Longview drops to 9-18. The Cougars will play another non-conference game on Wednesday traveling to Hillsboro, Kansas, to take on the junior varsity of Tabor College in a 4:00 p.m. nine-inning contest. Barton will return to conference action on Saturday against Dodge City Community College for a weekend series in Dodge City.
  • Cougar Baseball outslugged in dropping doubleheader

    The Barton Community College baseball team got outslugged Saturday at Lawson-Biggs Field in losing 9-7 and 15-12 to MCC-Longview. The Cougars appeared headed for a game one victory but a seven run sixth inning rally by MCC-Longview was the difference then a five run eighth inning in game two by the Lakers broke a 9-all tie. Barton pounded out twenty-six hits in the doubleheader to twenty-seven by the Lakers. Barton falls to 17-15-1 on the season while MCC-Longview improves to 9-16. The teams will wrap-up the four-game weekend series with another doubleheader on Sunday beginning at 12:00 p.m.
  • Cougar Baseball dominates in big win over Sterling College JV

    The Barton Community College baseball team scored in every inning but one in blasting the junior varsity of Sterling College 15-0 Monday at Lawson-Biggs Field. The Cougars broke open a 4-0 lead with a seven-run fourth inning to cruise to the seven inning shortened game. Barton improves to 17-13-1 on the season while Sterling’s junior varsity slides to 1-3. The Cougars will travel to Salina, Kansas, another non-conference game on Wednesday taking on Brown Mackie College in a 5:00 p.m. nine-inning game. Barton will return to Lawson-Biggs Field next weekend for a four-game non-conference series with MCC-Longview.
  • Tough Sunday for Barton Baseball in dropping two to Butler

    For six innings of the first game of Sunday's doubleheader at Lawson-Biggs Field, the Barton Community College baseball team was in full control with a 5-1 advantage. However a five run Butler Community College seventh inning erased the lead and handed the Cougars a disappointing 6-5 loss. In a pitcher’s duel second game, two Barton errors in the sixth opened the door just wide enough for Butler to grab a 2-1 lead in route to a 4-1 nine-inning victory. The two losses on the day drop Barton to 16-13-1 on the season and 7-9 in conference play while Butler, who took 3-of-4 in the series, improves to 18-9 on the season and 9-3 in conference play. The Cougars will step outside the conference for a midweek game Wednesday in Salina to take on Brown Mackie College in a 5:00 p.m. nine-inning game. Barton will return to Lawson-Biggs Field next weekend for a four-game non-conference series with MCC-Longview.

    The Barton Community College baseball team bounced back from a 7-3 loss to Butler Community College in the first game of Saturday’s conference doubleheader at Lawson-Biggs Field to hold on for an 11-7 victory in the nightcap over Butler Community College. The split puts Barton at 16-11-1 on the season and 7-7 in conference play while snapping Butler's nine game win streak in moving to 16-9 overall and 7-3 in conference. The teams return to Lawson-Biggs Field at 1:00 p.m. Sunday to conclude the four game series.
  • Cougars score 13 runs in consecutive games, hammer Brown Mackie 13-2

    The Barton Community College baseball team hammered Brown Mackie College 13-2 Thursday at Lawson-Biggs Field. Scoring in every inning of the game shortened seven innings, the Cougars put up three runs in each of the second and fourth innings then put the game away on Wichita freshman Grant Watkins first collegiate home run, a three-run blast to right field. Scoring thirteen runs in consecutive non-conference games, Barton improves to 15-10-1 on the season while dropping Brown Mackie to 1-15. The Cougars return to conference action this weekend to take on Butler Community College. Barton, 6-6 in conference play, will be taking on the 15-8 Grizzlies who stand tied at the top of the Jayhawk standings at 6-2. First pitch for both Saturday and Sunday’s doubleheader is 1:00 p.m. at Lawson-Biggs Field.

    Coming off a disappointing trip to Concordia on Monday, the Barton Community College baseball team traveled to Salina, Kansas, Wednesday to pound out a 13-3 win against the junior varsity from Kansas Wesleyan University. Barton broke open a 2-1 game with five runs in the fifth in cruising to the victory. Barton improves to 14-10-1 on the season while dropping KWU’s JV to 1-4. The Cougars will play another non-conference game on Thursday as Brown Mackie College comes to Lawson-Biggs Field for a 4:00 p.m. nine inning contest.
  • Walk-off home run snaps Barton Baseball’s six game win streak, Cougars split series at Cloud

    The Barton Community College baseball team had its six game win streak snapped 3-2 in ten innings of the first game of Monday’s doubleheader at Cloud County Community College in Concordia, Kansas. Scheduled for seven innings, the teams each scored one in the eighth before a Jared Winter walk-off homerun leading off the tenth gave Cloud County the victory. After getting twelve hits in the first game, Barton would manage only three hits in game two in falling 4-2 to drop the day’s twinbill and split the four-game series. Barton sinks to 6-6 in Jayhawk play and 13-10-1 overall while Cloud improves to 3-5 in conference play and 5-14 overall. Next up for the Cougars will be a 4:00 p.m. non-conference game on Thursday at Lawson-Biggs Field against Brown Mackie College then will entertain Butler Community College over the weekend in a four game conference series.

    The Barton Community College baseball team ran its win streak to six straight games with a doubleheader sweep at Cloud County Community College Saturday in Concordia, Kansas. The Cougars jumped out to a ten run lead through the first five innings of game one to win 10-6 then came from behind with a six run fifth while tacking on another three in the seventh to win game two 12-8. The pair of victories improves Barton to 6-4 in Jayhawk play and 13-8-1 overall while dropping Cloud to 1-5 in conference play and 3-14 overall. The teams wrap up the four-game series on Sunday with first pitch scheduled 2:00 p.m. at the Concordia Sports Complex.

    The Barton Community College baseball team scored nine runs in the final two innings to run rule the junior varsity from Bethany College 11-1 Wednesday evening at Lawson-Biggs Field. Barton put one on the board in each of the first two innings then answered Bethany’s lone run in the sixth with two in the home half before capping the victory with seven run seventh inning. Barton improves to 11-8-1 on the season while dropping Bethany’s JV to 0-5. The Cougars will take a 4-4 conference record this weekend to Concordia, Kansas, for a four game conference series against Cloud County Community College. The T-birds are 1-3 on the conference season and 2-11 overall. First pitch of both Saturday and Sunday’s first games of the doubleheader scheduled for 1:00 p.m. at the Concordia Sports Complex.

    The Barton Community College baseball team rallied for four runs in the ninth inning to earn a doubleheader sweep Monday at Lawson-Biggs Field over Colby Community College. The Cougars won game one 3-2 then rallied to capture game two 13-12. On Sunday the teams split their doubleheader as Colby took the first 9-7 with the Cougars taking the nightcap 9-5. With the 3-1 series win Barton improves to 4-4 in conference play and 10-8-1 overall while dropping Colby to 2-4 and 8-9. The Cougars will return to Lawson-Biggs Field on Wednesday as Barton hosts the junior varsity squad from Bethany College in a 4:00 p.m. nine-inning contest.

    The Barton Community College baseball team split their doubleheader Friday in Liberal, Kansas, dropping the first game 2-1 and winning the night cap 11-7 over Seward County Community College. The teams were scheduled to complete the four-game series on Saturday, but due to weather, have tentatively planned to resume the series on Tuesday. With the conference opening split for both teams, Barton runs their record to 7-5-1 while Seward County moves to 10-8.

    Six errors in game two Monday ruined a potential sweep as the Barton Community College baseball team split their doubleheader with the junior varsity squad from Midland University. Barton shut out the Warriors in game one 6-0 before squandering a two-run lead in the seventh to fall 8-6 in the eight innings. With the split Barton’s record goes to 6-4-1 while Midland goes to 2-2 on the season. The Cougars will return to the field on Wednesday as Barton hosts the junior varsity squad from Bethany College in a 4:00 p.m. nine inning affair at Lawson-Biggs Field.
