  • Ledford to pitch for Barton County baseball

    The Barton County Community College baseball team added a left-hander to the pitching staff with the signing of Caleb Ledford from Castle Rock High School in Washington. Ledford pitched and played outfield for Rockets.
  • Harrison inks to play baseball at Barton County

    The Barton County Community College baseball team signed Rock Creek High School senior Lucas Harrison to a letter-of-intent to play baseball next season. Harrison both pitched and played shortstop for the Mustangs last season.
  • Cougars season comes to end with loss to Cowley

    The Barton County Community College baseball team saw what was a very successful season come to a sudden end with a loss in the loser’s bracket at the Region VI Baseball Championships. The Cougars, the 2nd seed in the West, lost to the top seed from the East Cowley County, also an upset victim in the 1st round, by a 15-10 score. That ended Barton’s season at 37-20. Seward County (46-14) won the Championships and will move on to the NJCAA World Series.
  • Cougars upset in Region VI Tourney opener

    The Barton County Community College baseball team was on a roll heading into the double elimination portion of the Region VI Championships in Wichita. With ace Ryan Phillips on the mound Thursday, things looked good for the Cougars to win their 14th game in 15 outings. Pratt, however, had different ideas. The Beavers, who upset KCK in the opening round series, did likewise to Barton to start off the double elimination event at Lawrence Dumont Stadium in Wichita. Pratt beat Barton 7-2, sending the Cougars into an elimation game against Cowley County, also an upset victim, Friday at 2 pm.
  • Phillips, Christy, Elson tabbed 1st team All-West

    The Barton County Community College baseball team placed 3 players on the Jayhawk Conference All-West 1st team and added a 2nd team pick and two honorable mention selections. Barton, which finished in 2nd place at 22-10 in the West, had Ryan Phillips, Jeff Christy, and Steve Elson tabbed as 1st team selection. Phillips was the 2nd leading vote-getter among pitchers to earn 1st team while Christy and Elson were picked as 1st team catcher and 2nd baseman for the Cougars.
  • Barton sweeps Pratt; finishes 2nd in West

    The Barton County Community College baseball team did not control its own destiny heading into the weekend as far as the No. 2 seed in the West was concerned. The only things the Cougars could control were their two games with Pratt Saturday. And control them they did. Barton did its part by sweeping the Beavers, 10-2 and 12-5. Then came word that Garden City did its part for the Cougars as well. Garden City knocked off Hutchinson in a single make-up contest, moving the Cougars to 2nd in the West. Barton and Hutch both finished with 22-10 West marks, but the Cougars won 3 of 4 against Hutch this season to snag the tiebreaker and the No. 2 seed from the West in the upcoming Region VI baseball tournament. Barton finishes the regular season at 35-18.
  • Cougars knock off Cowley in non-league action; split games at Garden

    The Barton County Community College baseball team earned a win over Jayhawk East leading Cowley County Wednesday night at Cougars fields, out-slugging the Tigers to a 15-7 win. That came on the heels of a split Tuesday at Garden City in Jayhawk West play. Garden won the opener 7-2 and Barton won the nightcap 10-2. Barton is now 33-18 overall and 20-10 in the West. Barton and Hutchinson are battling for the No. 2 spot in the West with Hutchinson now 22-9. Barton must sweep Pratt Saturday and have Hutch lose to Garden this weekend in a single game to pass the Blue Dragons for 2nd place. Cowley is 34-17 overall.
  • Wagner no hits Butler; Cougars earn sweep of Grizzlies

    The Barton County Community College baseball team received its standard solid pitching outsing Sunday afternoon in El Dorado. But during the sweep of the Grizzlies it was even better than normal. Barton allowed just 1 run in 2 games, including a 1-0 no-hit effort from Ryan Wagner in the nightcap to close out the sweep. Barton won the opener 9-1 behind Ryan Phillips’ 8th win of the season. The Cougars (31-17) have won 7 straight West games – the longest winning streak of the season – to improve to 19-9 in the West, still battling Hutchinson for that 2nd spot. With the win, the Cougars secured a home playoff series to start the Region VI playoffs in two weeks. Hutch is 20-9. Barton, which holds the tiebreaker with the Blue Dragons, has 4 games to play while Hutch has 3 left. Butler fell to 12-17 in the West and 21-25 overall.
  • Barton sweeps Colby; closes in on home playoff series

    The Barton County Community College baseball team not only kept pace with Hutchinson in the loss column for 2nd place in the West but also took a big step toward clinching a home playoff series Wednesday afternoon with a sweep of Colby at Cougar Fields. Barton beat the Trojans 14-2 and 9-2 on the day the wind was blowing out at 40 mph-plus. The win is the 5th straight in West play for Barton and improved them to 17-9 in the West, just 1/2 game behind Hutchinson (18-9) for 2nd. Barton also moved to within a pair of wins of clinching a home series in the opening round of the new Region VI format. The Cougars are 29-17 overall this season. Colby dropped to 12-13 in the West and 24-24 overall.
  • Cougars sweep Dodge to remain in race for 2nd

    The Barton County Community College baseball team kept itself in the thick of the race for 2nd place in the Jayhawk West with a sweep of Dodge City Monday afternoon at Cougars Fields. The contest was a makeup doubleheader from Saturday, which was postponed due to wet field conditions. Barton won the opener Monday 10-2 and close out with a 9-3 win in the nightcap to improve to 15-9 in the West and 27-17 overall. Dodge City fell to 9-19 and 11-33 with the losses.
  • Barton splits weekend series; drops to 3rd in West race

    The Barton County Community College baseball team put itself in position to challenge for the Jayhawk West title with a sweep of Cloud County Saturday afternoon in Concordia. The Cougars won 12-9 and 15-4. But those hopes were dashed Sunday afternoon when West leader Seward County came to Great Bend and swept the Cougars 11-1 and 14-8, ending their 5-game West winning streak and just about any hope of capturing the West crown. Barton is now 24-16 overall and 12-8 in the West, sitting in 3rd place behind Seward and Hutchinson. The Cougars will travel to Hutchinson (26-18, 15-8) Wednesday in a battle for 2nd place. Seward now has a 5-game lead in the loss column for the West title at 17-3 in the West and 30-12 overall.

    The Barton County Community College baseball team will host Hap Dumont Day at Cougar Fields Sunday when the Seward County Saints visit Barton County in a match-up of the 1st and 2nd place teams in the Jayhawk West. Admission is free. Game time is 1 p.m.
  • Phillips tosses 2nd straight shutout; Cougars 2nd at halfway point

    For the 2nd straight time and 3rd time this season, the Barton County Community College baseball team rode the pitching efforts of Ryan Phillips and Derek McDaid to a doubleheader sweep. This time the Cougars defeated Garden City 4-0 and 7-2 to improve to 10-6 in the Jayhawk West, good for 2nd place. Barton is now 22-14 overall. Garden City fell to 5-9 and 19-12. The Cougars will play at Cloud County Saturday then host West leading and West unbeaten Seward County in a doubleheader Sunday at 1 p.m.
  • Cougars rally in 7th for split at Pratt

    The Barton County Community College baseball team was looking at its 2nd straight doubleheader of getting swept when the bats came to life just long enough to rally for a win in the final inning Wednesday at Pratt. Pratt won the opener by a 6-1 score and led 2-1 heading into the 7th inning when Barton scored twice for a 3-2 win and a split on the road. Barton is now in 2nd place in the Jayhawk West with an 8-6 record. The Cougars are 20-14 overall. Pratt is 5-7 in the West and 21-11 overall. Barton will host Garden City Saturday in a doubleheader.
  • Gubbels set to play for Cougar baseball next season

    The Barton County Community College baseball team signed out-of-state prospect Wade Gubbels to a letter-of-intent to play for the Cougars next season. Gubbels is currently a senior at Norfolk High School in Nebraska where he plays 1st base and does some pitching.

    The Barton County Community College baseball team signed Jerald Rowe to a letter-of-intent to play baseball at Barton County next season. Rowe is currently a senior at Independence High School where he plays outfield and pitches for the Bulldogs.
  • Hines signs to play baseball for Barton County in 2005

    The Barton County Community College baseball team signed Ryan Hines to a letter-of-intent to pitch for the Cougars in the 2005 season. Hines is currently a senior at Millard North High School in Omaha, Neb, where he pitches and plays some 1st base for the baseball team.

    The Barton County Community College baseball team had an up and down weekend, sweeping its first series to run the Cougars winning streak to 6 before dropping two road games Sunday. Barton swept Butler County by 5-0 and 3-0 margins Saturday at Cougar Fields to run its winning streak to 6 and move into 2nd place in the conference. A pair of 1-0 losses Sunday at Colby dropped Barton back to 3rd in the West at 7-5. The Cougars are 19-13 overall.
  • Field, Stanford break camp with Royals, Indians

    Two former Barton County Community College baseball players will be on the opening day rosters of Major League Baseball teams when the season starts next week. Nate Field and Jason Stanford have successfully earned spots on the Kansas City Royals and Cleveland Indians Rosters. The pair become the 1st-ever former Cougars to start the season in the Major Leagues. Both players spent some time last year with their respective teams – ending the season in the Majors.

    The Barton County Community College baseball team put together back-to-back Jayhawk West sweeps Wednesday afternoon, rolling to 10-0 and 9-2 wins at Dodge City. That sweep comes on the heels of a sweep of Hutchinson Sunday at Cougars Fields and now gives the 3rd place Cougars a 5-3 record in conference play. Harrison Harber had a huge day at the plate for Barton, belting 3 homers and driving in 8 runs in the twinbill as Barton improved to 17-11 overall. Dodge City is now 3-9 and 5-23.
  • Barton sweeps Hutchinson; drops two at West leader Seward

    The Barton County Community College baseball team scored a big doubleheader sweep of 2nd place Hutchinson Sunday at Cougar Fields, one day after dropping a pair of games to West leader Seward County in Liberal. The Cougars won both games Sunday by a 5-3 score against the Blue Dragons after losing 4-2 and 8-3 in Liberal to Seward County. Barton is now 3-3 in the West and 15-11 overall. Seward continues to lead the Jayhawk at 6-0 with Hutchinson 2nd at 6-4. Barton is tied with 3rd with .500 mark.
  • Cougars split West opener with Cloud County

    The Barton County Community College baseball team is getting used to splitting twinbills this season. For the 9th time in 11 twinbills, the Cougars left the ball park with a split, this time against Cloud County in the West opener at Cougar Fields. Barton won the 1st game 5-2 then fell 7-5 in the 2nd game to give Barton a 13-9 overall record and 1-1 mark in the West. Cloud is now 15-10 and 2-2.
  • Barton splits games with Lions; prepare for West action

    The Barton County Community College baseball team settled for a split Monday afternoon at Cougar Fields with the Brown Mackie Lions. Barton dropped the opener by a 13-9 margin, then exploded for 17 runs in the nightcap for a 17-4 win to garner the split. The Cougars are now 12-8 overall this season with the conference opener slated for Wednesday when Cloud County comes to town.
  • Cougars 5-3 over Spring Break Trip

    It was a trip of splitting games most of the time for the Barton County Community College baseball team during its jaunt South over Spring Break. The Cougars split games on 3 of their 4 dates, taking a doubleheader sweep at Midland College on the final stop of the tour. Barton split twinbills at Northern Oklahoma-Enid, Howard College, and Odessa College before earning the sweep. The 5-3 mark moves Barton to 11-7 for the season.
  • Barton splits opening twinbills with Western Nebraska

    The Barton County Community College baseball team opened its 2004 season with a split of games both Saturday and Sunday against Western Nebraska at Cougar Fields in Great Bend. Barton split games Saturday, winning the opener 4-0 behind a combined no-hitter from 2 pitchers, then dropped the 2nd game 2-1. The scenario was similar Sunday with Barton winning 10-0 then losing 5-3 to give Barton a 2-2 mark to start the season.
  • Nehls signs to play for Cougars in 2005

    Hays High School’s Brock Nehls has signed a letter of intent to play baseball next season for Barton County Community College, continuing in the footsteps of several past Hays High Indians. Nehls will be a senior on the Indians team this spring, playing both shortstop and pitching for Indian coach Frank Leo.
  • Stettinger to play baseball for Cougars

    The Barton County Community College baseball team kept its ties with Great Bend High School going with the signing of Great Bend senior Michael Stettinger to play baseball for the Cougars in the spring of 2005. This years’ Cougar roster includes four Great Bend High graduates.
  • McBride to play baseball for Cougars in 2005

    The Barton County Community College baseball team signed in-state prospect Brett McBride to play baseball during the 2005 campaign. McBride is one of the first players to sign with the Cougars. McBride is currently a senior at Lawrence High School and works both sides of the ball as a 1st baseman and a pitcher.
  • Adams to play baseball for Cougars in 2005

    The Barton County Community College baseball team signed in-state prospect Robbie Adams to play baseball for them next season. Adams was among the 1st group of players to sign to play for Barton next season. Adams will be a senior at Goddard High School this springs, where he plays shortstop for the Lions.
  • Whinery inks to play baseball for Cougars

    The Barton County Community College baseball team released its first signees for the 2005 season with Erik Whinery among the first to sign for the Cougars next season. Whinery will come to Barton County from Highlands Ranch, Colo. following his senior season at Heritage High School this spring.
