Lady Cougars place five in top twenty to claim Masterson Cross Country Classic
The Barton Community College women's cross country team was on a mission Saturday at Hutchinson’s Westar/Prairie Ridge Park blowing the competition away at the Terry Masterson Classic hosted by Hutchinson Community College. The Lady Cougars placed three runners in the top ten and five within the top twenty as Barton averaged 21:13.8 over the 5k course, over thirty five seconds better than second place Dodge City Community College.

Lydia Mato was the no surprise first place finisher at 20:08.1 while Florida freshman Asha Douglas was close behind at 20:10.9. Also placing in the top ten was Holly Pierce coming in tenth at 21:36.5 with fellow sophomore Kaitlynn Tuey celebrating her birthday with a 13th place 21:53.3 finish. Freshman Mariah Stein cracked the top twenty crossing in 22:19.9 for the 20th spot.
Freshman Emilykate Hopson-Boyd and sophomore Julee McAtee rounded out the Barton entries with Hopson-Boyd finishing 34th in 24:33.4 while McAtee finished three spots later clocking a 24:54.9.
The Lady Cougars next race won't be for another three weeks as Barton competes October 3rd at the Chili Pepper Festival in Fayetteville, Arkansas, but will be doing so without the services of Head Coach Parker Cowles. Recently accepting a position at his alma mater Air Force Academy, Cowles went out on top leading the Lady Cougars to their first meet victory in recent Barton history.
