The Barton Community College volleyball team opened its 2019 season impressively this weekend in Beatrice, Nebraska, sweeping its four matches of the RKP Invite.

Barton began play on Friday sweeping Hawkeye Community College 25-8, 25-21, and 25-13 then faced an early season test in Division II No. 11 ranked Northeast Community College with the Cougars prevailing 25-21, 25-20, 29-27.

Saturday's action was nearly as impressive, getting off to a 25-9 and 25-21 two-set lead over Southeastern Community College, but dropped the third 26-24 before pounding the Blackhawks 25-5 to end the match. The Cougars then wound up the day with its third straight set win of the weekend in dispatching Southwestern Community College 25-11, 25-12, and 25-16.

Barton will board a plane on Monday in heading to Arizona where the Cougars will play six matches. The Cougars' competition begins on Tuesday with a 9:00 p.m. (CT) match at Glendale Community College followed by Thursday's bout with Scottsdale Community College at 7:00 p.m. (CT). Barton will then play four matches in the two-day 3rd Annual Dalton Overstreet Invitational in Prescott beginning on Friday with New Mexico Junior College at 1:00 p.m. (CT) and Eastern Arizona College at 7:00 p.m. (CT) while Saturday's pair of matches include Utah State Eastern at 12:00 p.m. (CT) followed by South Mountain Community College at 5:00 p.m. (CT).
