School record, four golds, and two more national qualifying performances highlight Barton track and field weekend at Sevigne Husker Invitational #GoBarton

Barton women's track and field athlete Fiona Richards in the shot put

The Barton Community College track and field program won four events and set a new program record this past weekend in Lincoln, Nebraska, competing in the 45th Annual Frank Sevigne Husker Invitational hosted by the University of Nebraska.

Barton will now turn its attention to post-season with a two week break before heading to Pittsburg, Kansas, for the Region VI/KJCCC Championships held February 21-22.

Headlining the performances was Fiona Richards in the shot put, breaking the program record on her fourth toss in placing third overall. The sophomore increased her NJCAA leading mark to 16.28m (53-05.00), eclipsing the record by over a foot set last season by Latavia Maines.

The Cougar squad won four events on the weekend, two each from the women and men's side.

A pair of program record lists were affected in the women's pair of victories, with Yoveinny Mota's 60m hurdle championship of 8.27 clocked the 3rd fastest in Barton women's history while Christal Mosley increased her NJCAA fastest time this year in the 400m with a 54.45 for the 7th best all-time clocking.

Placing second but also making an impact on the record book was Phillip Lemonious, timing a program 3rd best 7.75 to take over the nation's leaderboard with fellow national qualifier Deshaun Jones placing fifth in 7.96.

The men's event winners came in the 60m and 200m as Davonte Burnett won the short track in 6.70 while Caleb Boger set a new personal best with a 21.08.

The nation's top jumper Shakwon Coke, placed third overall in Friday's long jump competition at 7.29m (23-11.00) but in Saturday's triple jump competition soared to a personal best 15.41m (50-06.75) to solidify his top spot as the freshman took home his second third place of the weekend.

Each squad added another national qualifier to its list, Sharikae Campbell's season best 200m time of 24.95 increases the women's total qualifiers to 25 while Karon Dean's personal best 6.85 clocking in the 60m gives the men's squad 20 on the season.
