For the second time in the past three weeks of the outdoor season, Yoveinny Mota of the Barton Community College women's track and field team has been named the NJCAA Division I National Female Athlete of the Week by the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA).

A double event winner this past weekend at the KJCCC/Region VI Outdoor Championships in El Dorado, Mota clocked a meet record 13.31 to break a twenty-one year region record of 13.49 set by fellow Cougar Daveetta Shepherd at the 1998 meet. Mota's time also hit the 6th fastest all-time NJCAA clocking and is the second fastest time in Latin America this season and third best in Barton program history.

Adding to the individual title, Mota joined her mates Nijah Roberson, Christal Mosley, and T'Nia Riley for the 4x100m relay title as the nation's leading baton passing squad registering 45.39 to blow away the competition by nearly two seconds.

Mota's efforts help aide the nation's top ranked Cougars in a forty-five point meet victory securing the women's fourth straight Region VI crown and the program's 32nd overall.

Next up is the final meet of the season as Barton travels to Hobbs, New Mexico, for the NJCAA Division I Outdoor Championships held May 16-18.

The second national weekly outdoor honor is the third of the women's outdoor program history as Mota becomes the first two-time award recipient as long distance standout Lydia Mato won the award once during the 2015 season.

The national award is also the fifth recognition of the outdoor season for the Barton program overall as fellow freshman standout Alencar Pereira has earned three men's weekly awards.
