Barton Tennis teams earn trio of victories in non-conference action #GoBarton

The Barton Community College tennis programs won all three of its dual matches this week. The Lady Cougars defeated Iowa Central Community College (9-0), Sterling College (8-1), and Kansas Wesleyan University (9-0) while the men overpowered Iowa Central Community College (8-1), Sterling College (8-1), and Kansas Wesleyan University (9-0).

The victories improve the 11th ranked Lady Cougars to 5-2 on the season while the 10th ranked Cougars grow their season record to 5-1. Due to the COVID-19 concerns, the KJCCC and NJCAA have halted spring competitions through April 3rd. Barring further developments, Barton's next scheduled match will come April 9th on the road at Newman University.

On the women's side the Cougars pieced together an 18-0 mark in singles action led by the trio of nationally ranked (14) Alexandra Abyasova, (25) Mariane Lima and (30) Claudia Sumaia's perfect runs. Also adding perfect records individually were Natsuki Nishimura, Malena Hernandez and Sara Martin.

In doubles action the Lady Cougars finished 8-1 for the week with the lone defeat to #3 doubles Haley Vinroe and Kylee Jones falling 8-5 to Sterling's Brooklyn Bauman and Cortney Blackburn.

The Barton men performed a perfect singles week as twelve different individuals recorded victories in the effort. Posting 2-0 records for the week was #16 Oswaldo Cano, #47 Sebastian Pino, #49 Octavio Carrasco, Samrakshyak Bajracharya, Eduardo Morais and James Kaoma.

Mixing up the lineup in Tuesday's match against Sterling, the new Cougar six pack shined as Victor Pestana, Arthur Angles, Tom Letecheur, Yordi Ponce, Felipe Serrate and Jarrett Bowman secured victories in singles action.

In doubles-action, the Cougars were nearly perfect, winning six-of-nine matchups.
