Lady Cougars golden seven times in Sioux City, Iowa; Fanny Courbot writes record book in 1000 freestyle #GoBarton

The Barton Community College women's swimming team earned a runner-up and third place showing over the two day weekend event hosted by Morningside College in Sioux City, Iowa. In Friday's action of the Morningside Stampede the Cougars tallied together 52 points finishing third to Southwest Minnesota State's 69 and Iowa Central Community College's 75 points. Barton captured an individual title and ten top-five finishes in the eleven event meet.

Swimming in the 100 backstroke for the first time in her Barton career, Elizabeth Spitz claimed the lone title for the Cougars stopping the clock at 1:01.82 edging out Madison Hubert of Southwest Minnesota State.

Itching her name into the Barton record books, Fanny Courbot finished runner up clocking an 11:18.45 debut in the 1000-yard freestyle. Five other Cougars swam to personal bests, Lizbeth Candanedo, Cassandre Zenon, Kaci Bentley, Abigail Fry, and Paola Noriga-Rivera.

Pacing the Cougars on top of the podium was Courbot, Spitz and Elizabeth Schrock all earning three medals.  

In Saturday's action Barton finished the meet with 590 points jumping Southwest Minnesota State and Iowa Central from the previous day's meet, finishing runner up behind Augustana University's 751-point total.

The Cougars came away with four pool records, four personal bests and six first place finishes led by Courbot's trio of golds. The freshman from France won two of her three individual events, earning new pool records in the 100 breaststroke, 200 breaststroke, while tagging along another gold and pool record in the 200 medley relay with McKayla Siemiller, Zenon and Spitz.

Siemiller contributed two other golds earning an individual title in the 50 free adding a second gold capping the last leg of the pool record 200 freestyle relay teaming up with Spitz, Sierra Williams and Schrock.

Candanedo concluded the Cougars gold medal count taking the 200 butterfly in the ten entrant field.

Barton will take a break from the pool before concluding the first portion of the season December 6th-7th at the Hendrix Invitational in Conway, Arkansas.
